Cannot open DVD disc

Hello,

I am not able to open any disc when I insert it into the drive.
The drive mechanism will run but after a while, error message : "Please insert disk into Drive E" appears. This message appears even though the disc is already inside.
I checked Device Manager and the drive is OK. I then uninstall and re-install the drivers for this device.
When I checked the device properties with the disc inserted, it opened a blank window with no data.
I checked Microsoft Support - knowledge base but couldn't find any solutions.
Greatly appreciate your assistance. Thanks.

Brian

    My drive is DVD drive.

    "HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GSA-T10N ATA Device"

I did clean as you mentioned and put in a CD. The problem still there. Is there any other thing that I can do before considering replacing the drive?

    Thanks.

Brain,
Is your drive supports DVD? Try to put a CD disc and see its reading or not. If this problem occurs for both CD's and DVD's discs then you might have problem in your drive lense. and if it only reads CD then your drive might not be supported for DVD's.

try to clean your drive lense using CD head cleaner, it might solve your problem, other than you have to replace your drive.

Thanks
Iqbal

A while ago, my laptop's DVD drive stopped reading CDs. A after a few attempts , it displays the CD/DVD as an empty one. The CDs are not empty or too scratched because I tried them on a different computer...

Hello there!

Please note that a CD-ROM drive can read and in some cases write to a CD inserted into it. This is done by means of a fragile laser mechanism that scans the surface of the disc as it spins at high speed inside the drive. Drive failure can occure from a scratched laser eye, mechanical failure, overheating, or simply years of use. You will want to ensure the drive is actually broken before buying a new one as replacement or send it for a repair.

Please follow these easy steps:

1. Open the CD drive tray and insert a CD. If you have a tray that opens by pushing a button, push the button. For slot drives, try to slide the CD in. On slot drives, if the CD will not go in fully, the drive is not getting power.

2. Wait and listen for a "whirring" sound from the drive after the CD is in and the drive tray is pushed in. This may take a few seconds.

3. Look at the status light on the front of the drive if one is present. It should be blinking to indicate that the device is reading the CD.

4. Replace the first CD with another one in case the first CD is damaged or unreadable. Repeat steps 1 through 3 with the second CD.

5. Wait to see if anything comes up on the pc screen indicating the CD is being read or run. A notification may appear asking if you want to play the CD or run the software. This indicates a functioning drive.

6. Click on "Start" followed by "My Computer" and locate the CD-ROM drive usually labeled as "D:/" or "E:/". Double click on it. If the CD drive makes no noise or an error message appears on screen indicating the disc can not be read, the drive may be broken.

If an error message appears indicating that the CD-Rom drivers are missing this may indicate a software issue and not a broken drive.

Dvd wont load up.. keeps sayin no disc

Hello,

The most common reason for the DVD not reading discs is a bad drive. The following website sells the drives and does installs:

store.richspsxparts.com/wiiredvddr

This drive should fix any reading issues you are having with your DVD plate, or issues inserting your games or ejecting them (or lack thereof). This is the entire DVD drive assembly mechanism replacement for your DVD including a new laser. If your discs are not ejecting, or you cannot insert a disc -- or you can insert a disc but it will not load, this is what you need to get your DVD on your TV Combo going again!
Hope this help...

try to insert your software to other DVD rom to manually check the printworkshop. if read then, you DVD rom got error or what so ever causes. maybe it a system failure.

If you are sure that your ROM is working properly, then you have to consult the vendor of the print workshop.

Sony DVD-RW DW-D56A drive playing up

I am not posting a solution, but may be the same problem.
I have dell inspiron 510m with DVD - RW sony A 56
It had burnt one DVD till now, but it can NOT burn any more DVDs.
I have tried burning using windows XP-SP2, Nero 6, Nero 8, burn my files 3.01 BUT no use. The only thing I got is different error messages.
I changed many types of DVD-Rom, from sony, benq..trying to rule out the storge media itself as source of error, but again no use.
Astonishingly, it works a CD-ROM Burner very well.
Any suggestions?
