Don't use Descreen. That is for scanning things such as Magazines that, when looked at very close, appears to have a lot of little dots that can cause a moire pattern when scanned.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Can I scan a negative 4X5 black\white to make a photo

In general, yes, you can scan a negative and make a photo from it. I don't really know your model scanner, my Canon 8400f has a film adapter and a light in the cover, but would have to scan a 4x5 in sections and I would have to piece it together after scanning.
The results I get from scanning negs are very good, as good as I ever got in my darkroom.

First, make certain that the flatbed scanner lid is securely shut.
Second, unplug the power and USB cables from the rear of the scanner.
Third, deposit the Canon 8400F scanner in the nearest garbage receptacle where it belongs.
Hope this helps.

I want to save scanned document as a .doc using CanoScan 8400F

Scanners only see millions of dots. Unless it has software to convert a picture into a document, all documents are seen by scanners as pictures made of of millions of dots. Software is available to convert it to a Microsoft Doc format but it is very expensive.

Canon 8400F scanner refuses to scan 12 negatives at a time. Preview shows them all, but the "select all frames" is grayed out, and refuses to function. I can scan manually one negative at a time among...

Check to see if the "Thumbnail Display" is on or off (first icon on the toolbar in the ScanGear CS window). If it is on, a colored border will appear around one of the images in the preview display, but you will not be able to select all frames. If you click on the Thumbnail Display icon to turn it off, only a dotted line will appear around one of the images, but you will be able to click on the "select all frames" Apply button.

How do i scan film on my scanner

You should be able to download the manual.

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadDetailAct&fcategoryid=351&modelid=10242

To scan film, you'll need to first remove the white cover on the underside of the scanner lid. That is where the backlight is. Also, you must be using the ScanGear driver and NOT the WIA driver. The WIA driver does not support film scanning. Locate your film guides. These are the templates that will hold the film and are placed on the scanner glass to be scanned. Lastly, there should be a Select Source option in the scanner driver that allows you to select Film as the source.

Hope this helps.
