Panasonic dmr-es35v dvd recorder

Hey slinterio,
here is one for you,
i have a panasonic dmr-es35v dvd/vhs recorder, we had it for about 2months and the power was interupted several times in a row, causing the unit to shut down and give an error code of "U61" and it would not reset, i took it in for diagnostics test , and they said the hard drive was fried, and it would cost me $435 dollers to fix, i laughed and said i bought it at wal mart for $239 dollers brand new! is there any way i can fix this on my own or am i out of luck on this one?

It can be repaired however I am not sure if the hard drive is available for that unit or not. I would contact panasonic to inquire as to the availability of a new drive.Sorry I couldnt help you more with it.

DMR-ES35V is a VCR/DVD recorder combo unit which does NOT feature a HDD. Sounds more like the digital processor board (under the DVD-RAM drive) is corrupted/fried. This sadly, is expensive to replace as a whole assembly.

My Panasonic dmr-es35v has decided to cease recording, and makes loud grinding noises, any ideas, reset?

You can try a reset, but I doubt it would do much good. The loud grinding noises and failure to record sound to me like the DVD-RAM drive has had it. This sadly is not a cheap part to replace, and there's the issue of fitting/alignment/firmware upgrade etc.

Uneconomical for a model that is over 4 years old (since it has no digital tuner).

However, if you are prepared to spend a small fortune on a workshop repair/replacement DVD drive, go ahead, but I warn you it could cost as much as, if not more than the price of a new VHS/DVD recorder combo unit.

Is the Remote Control sensor in direct fluorescent lamp light or other strong
sources of light?
Press unit POWER button down over 7 seconds. The POWER indicator goes
out. If the Power was On, the screen will also disappear. After 5 seconds, turn
Power On and operate unit normally. If the steps above do not restore normal
operation, disconnect then reconnect the AC plug and turn the power On.

If that does not work, Panasonic offers free tech support 6 days a week 1-800-211-7262 (pana).
