My computer won't see my ipod

i have a ipod nano 8gb.
it works fine but my computer or itunes will not recognize it.
i tried it on a mac and the same thing. it simply does not show up.
the only way i can charge it is with a stereo ipod dock system.
again it will play just fine on earbuds or a dock mount stereo.
but the computer won't see it.
i tried a different usb cord and still nothing.

    i already tried the 5 R's and didn't work.
it is impossible for me to reinstall or restore.
because a PC, Mac or itunes can't see my ipod.

thanks i think it is a hardware problem and thus will try to get it seviced.

i've tried putting it in diagnostic mode.
does anyone know if i can restore it via diagnostic mode?

I'm having the exact same problem. My computer won't see or charge my i-pod. It still works to play music and it plays music through my car and will only charge off my car. I tried the 4 R's twice and that won't work. I also tried on a friends computer and using her usb connection and hers works just fine, mine nothing. It's as if it doesn't exist. This is very fusterating since I bought it from a friend and can't return it.

The only cause of this problem that I can think of, is I was using it with itunes and it wouldn't eject or turn off so I just unplugged it. Since then I can't get it to work.

If anyone has any suggestions, or knows where to get it serviced, let me know! Thank you!

Ok, its a hardware side problem then, if it doesnt work on multiple pcs after being reset.

contact apple, your dealer, or a local professional for repairs.

ITunes does not recognize my iPod Nano 8GB Silver. It recognizes my iPod 2GB. Why is this happening? I have a Dell XPS and I am using Microsoft Word 2010.

Just reset the 8GB nano by holding the center and menu buttons at the same time for about 6 seconds. It usually works for me with my iPod classic 120GB.

Ipod nano 8GB 3rd generation FROZEN!

Try resetting the ipod while its connected to the computer by holding both the menu and center button at the same time for 6-10 seconds until you see an apple appear on the screen. You may need to repeat the reset. If this fails your looking at a hardware issue most likely. Good Luck.

So it shows up on iTunes? Trying deleting it off of your iPod and then copy it back onto it. If you can't delete it just try to copy it over again.
iTunes might have changed what type of video it is, they might have made it a music video or a tv show and they are moved to different folders

Ipod Nano 8gb won´t synchronize

Try this.
  1. Put the iPod into disk mode by holding the menu and middle keys together until the screen turns dark.
  2. Then quickly hold both he middle button and play/pause buttons until the iPod shows a check mark and the words disk mode at the top.
  3. ThenClick on iTunes to open it.
  4. Connect the iPod to the computer. You may have to do a restore depending on what iTunes says you need to do.
If this doesn't work, check the bottom of the ipod where you connect the cable. See if there are any bent pins. These are very fragile and can be damaged if you insert or pull the cable out the wrong way. Hope that helps.

Cannot get Ipod Nano to appear in the source panel

The newer iPod nano requires iTunes 7 or later, which unfortunately requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later. You must upgrade your operating system to install iTunes so you can use your iPod with it.
