Blue Hue and lines on HDTV

Hi Dave,

I have the same issue with my Hitachi 52" rear projection HDTV. Have you found out what the issue was or is? Please fill me in. Seems this is a more recent issue some of us are falling into, and there doesn't appear to be much in the way of help on the matter.

Thank you!

Here is an photo I found that shows the blue hue and the concave and convex (curved lines across the screen).

Mind you I still get the cable channels, dvd and gaming system, they just have this hue along with the image I'm watching.

    Here is the link:

This is not the issue, this has nothing to do with the settings on the system. I was watching the tv when the screen immediately went to this. I then tried to reset the settings to factory. This did not work, I also tried to adjust the colors to rid of this. This is hue is there no matter where I put tone, or color adjustments, sharp or any other adjustment for the unit.

Something is seriously wrong and it has nothing to do with adjusting my settings. (I am a computer repair techie I assure you I have tried to do everything from discharging the capacitor and turning back on the unit to resetting the tv settings to adjusting the units tone and color. There is something mechanically malfunctioning with this unit)

    Thank you. Please try again.

Took the front panel off the HDTV, adjusted the FOCUS TRANSFORMER AKA
G2 FOCUS BLOCK colors to show no color. When I turn any color up
yellow, red... I get no lines, and I get the color immediately. These
lines are call: RETRACE (convex & concave lines on screen) When I
adjust the blue, on the G2 Focus Block, there is not a lot of blue
saturation (like the other colors did when adjusted) & there is
    Retrace (aka Blue Lines).

When the colors were adjusted to a
normal state, the blue color was not stable. It reverted back to the
blue hue with the retrace/lines. (For other trying this adjust the
color, simply tap the black box with all the adjustment knobs on it. If
the color goes back it could be this. 'COULD BE')

REPLACED the Focus Transformer aka G2 Focus Block aka CRX Focus Pack (Hitachi
calls it a CRX Focus Pack) It's about a $50 part easy to reinstall, did
need a soldering iron to remove one of the wires off the block.

replacing this DID NOT RESOLVE this problem. Issue still exists. Have
ordered the CRT Board for the Blue and the Large Signal Board just in
case the it is not the CRT Board. Will update this in a week.

I took pictures to help assist anyone else experiencing this and not able to get a help.

Well it's senseless to post the rest. The parts were ordered and the tech came out and put ALL of them in. So I have 3 parts replaced. All 3 of the color boards as well as the circuit board was replaced.

It's a good thing I had a warranty. The circuit board cost Hitachi 1,100, the color boards were about 350, and the initial part shown on the link and shot above the Focus Block goes for 100-180. That and labor and I would have had to pay 1,900.00 for this. It's amazing, as I bought this item on clearance for under 1,000. They paid almost 2 grand to fix it? INSANITY!

I will never buy a rear projection TV. I have one at home that has been working perfect for 13 years, this thing didn't make a year. The techie stated that they don't build them with quality parts anymore. He suggested a LCD over Plasma.

So what this boils down to, if it's not the Focus Block or the color boards, then forget repairing it. Otherwise not worth the repair.

    Good Luck

Toshiba 42PW33Q rear projection gone blue

OK to help assist everyone having the BLUE HUE and CURVED LINES Issue on their Rear Projection HDTV no matter their model. Here are the steps to take. The first thing to check is the FOCUS BLOCK or G2 Focus Transformer or CRX F-Pack. I have replaced mine, however it didn't resolve the issue. I am onto the next item the CRT Board for Blue (Which is the board under one of the three color lamps inside your tv) Please see photo below (if photo is not large enough below go to link to review notes as well) If the CRT Board is not it, then the next step will be the Signal Board which is a larger board in the back. In a week I will have a picture of both.

  1. Remove the outside cover
  2. Remove the wood plank/panel
  3. In the front is the G2 Focus Block/Transformer, while set is on turn the top 3 knobs till the screen goes black/dark grey.
  4. adjusting the colors till you receive the desired or normal color/picture.
  5. Once you have received the proper color/picture tap the side of the Focus Block.
  6. IF The colors go out of wack again and the blue comes back strong then this "CAN BE" the Focus Block.
  7. NOTE: IF the color stays stable, then you problem is resolved and you do not need to replace it.

Replace the G2 Focus Block aka Focus Transformer, if Hitachi it's called a CRX F-Pack. This item will cost about $50. Not expensive. You will likely need a soldiering iron. DO TURN OFF & UNPLUG THE TV WHEN INSERTING ANY METAL OBJECTS INTO THE TV!!

FOLLOW THE PHOTOS/DIAGRAM in link below for assistance in the above instructions. I will post my next process since it was not my Focus Block that was an issue.

Hitachi 52 projection tv

use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
