Computer recognition of camera

I have reinstalled the software two times - everything seems to be working, but the computer doesn't recognize the camera. It doesn't come up as a choice and I can't copy any of the video clips to the computer. It used to work, but now is not working.

Ok I don't like to use blogs that much but after I spent 2 complete days trying to fix a similar problem I decide to try to help someone else that may have the same problems.
I have a new canon HX A1 camcorder I was trying to transfer my videos to my computer but it was impossible. Every time I tried i got a message saying that no device is connectet to the computer.
I call Dell we spent 2 hours trying to fix this but nothing. I chnage registry programs and still.
So I decide to call Canon to see what was the problem. Wow that lady fix my problem in two minutes.
The problem is that some programs (in my case I have Adobe premier cs3, movie maker, and others) are not able to accept High Definition signal. I culdn't believe that cs3 cant handle HD but that was the problem. You can change the settings in the camcorder to send standard signal and you'll see the camcorder is recognized by the computer right away.
I hope this can be helful to anyone with similar problems
If you get any questions you can contact me.

to change the setting; put your camcorder in VCR mode and go to menu/signal setup

Listen, once your computer recognizes your camera, using windows explorer you can go into the innards of your camera and locate the pictures and simply copy them to any spot you want on your hard drive. U do not need any software to do that!

Canon Not recongized by Computer

Try to change the USB connection type in the camera menu. There are several types like Mass storage, Pict. bridge, and the one you need is most likely PTP. Anyway, try all of those and maybe it will work. That is the most common problem when connecting cameras to Vista based systems.

Hold in play/pause, and then connect to PC

I don't completely understand the "Firweire" reference. The manual (and logic) does not indicate that a firewire connection would work. Plain old USB for this device.

Recognition problem with Sony DSC-P50

Most digital cameras software require that the camera be in playback mode (mode for viewing photos) before the computer will recognize the camera. If that is not the solution, be sure to go back and read your Sony User's Manual and see if you are overlooking something. If you are unable to get the computer to recognize the camera you can always buy a card reader (about $20).
