Phaser 8400 is printing very blurry throughout documentst. The text is not legible. Seems like double-printing. is there a procedure to correct this problem? I've already made some adjustments. maybe it is a bad part. print head or something.

when printing the writing is very blurred and illegable. Tried printing from black ink only and then the printing become kind of zig zag. Is unable to print straight lines. Have tried performing head cleaning, and alignment. Both unsuccessful.

It sounds like the drum encoder is bad and will need to be replaced. Is it still under warranty? Call Xerox. Or find someone who is trained to fix printers to repair it for you.

Good Luck.

Can you please tell me how to print double sided? Thanks

Xerox Phaser 8400 does not support double sided prints. You have to have a Duplex Unit for Phaser 8400 part number 097S03177 to be able to print double sided. If you have the duplex unit, on the Print dialog box just click Preferences and under 2-Sided Printing select 2-Sided Print then Apply.

How to set up printer to print double sided. Printer Xerox Phaser 8400

First look at your printer identification.

You can see it in either the display or on the startup or configuration pages.

It must have a "D" in the name for you to be able to do automatic duplexing. i.e. 8400DN or 8400DX . Then you can scroll to printer setup
and select defaults, and then turn on the duplex, or double sided printing.

If yours does not have a "D" i.e. 8400, 8400N then you would need a new sim card to enable the duplex option.

Blurry Printing

Quite possibly, your Wave Amp board has failed. If so, it is more cost effective to purchase a new printer than to repair yours unless you can find used parts.

Currently, Xerox is offering a trade-up rebate on new solid ink printers.

Phaser 8400 Printing Blurry

The Drum Encoder is behind the fan assembly.

When you take the encoder cover off be extremely careful.
Use a cotton swab on the disc only with just a light amount of alcohol on the encoder disc.

PHASER 8400

There is an encoder on the drum drive motor that picks up lubricant from the maintenance kit. It may simply need cleaned, if cleaning doesnt work, it will need to be replaced.
Xerox has parts lists on the xerox.com site for that product if you need to locate it.

You can also look up service dealers in your area on the xerox website. Most will get you the print head and labor much cheaper. I emphasise the MUCH portion of cheaper...
