Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

No sound from a sony stereo receiver.

It worked fine last week. I took it apart because I was redoing the room. It was working, I shut it off disconnected everything and moved it. A week later I put it all abck together again.
when I turn the receiver on every thing lites up and the displays move showing signals but no sound from the speakers. I've change speakers with one's I know work and still no sound. Is there some swith or button I may havr accidently touch shutting off the sound. The mute button is offI've moved the speakers around to all the ports still no sound. Is there something you can suggest other than getting a new one.

Graeme, I've checked the place you told me and there is o onoff switch. But on the screen that tells you waht mode station etc It says stereo monitor 2 video 2 and the only thing plugged in right now is the unit to the power and a speaker. Could this be the problem and if so is there a cure short of getting a new receiver/

The little box just says in thre little square 2 or 1 depending which video button I push. It stays on whenever I go to another function. So i"ll try what you said and leave it unplugged for the next ten days and see if that helps. It really is driving me nuts. There are no troubleshooiting steps for this

Hi there

Have you checked that the speaker on/off switches have not been bumped also. They are often at the left hand end of the amp next to the power switch and easy to turn on. A Tape monitor switch engaged will also give you those symptoms. Check them out and get back to me here if you cant find the problem

ahhh yes. It looks like it has the video "monitor" turned on. have you tried pressing the button that refers to the video monitor? If you cant get any success there, most amps have volatile memory, and if you eave them unplugged for 10 days, the user presets that may be engaged all go back to default settings

Answering machine does not work

Sounds like your settings changed. Refer to owners manual. Make sure your line is plugged in and the settings are set so the answering machine answers on a certain ring. Sometimes the answering machine may be fulkl and you need to delete messages to make room for more.

Sony cassette stereo - No sound in the afternoons!

If you can get at the electrical connections for the stereo, check them and spray contact cleaner on anything with connectors on it.

Otherwise replace it.
