To make sure it's not a driver problem: Click Start>right click my computer>click Properties>click Hardware>click thr + next network adadtor. Right click on your wireless adapyor and click on uninstall. When it's done, move tou're pointer to the top where it says My Computer or the name if you gave it one. Right click on it, then click on scan for hardware changes. Your system should find the card and install it and tell you it's ready for use. If you need a driver here is a link: http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=WDA%2D2320#drivers
Also, with d-link there should be a little d on your task bar. Right click on that, click on show available networks and make sure it's connecter to youre. If this fixed your problem please rate it fixed. If not just add a comment and I'll be glad to help. Thanks.

When the card was installed the for the first time , did HP detect if something new was put into the computer . If not then there could be an isuse with the card.
To check that , click on start>right click on my computer>left click properties>click harware tab >click device manager
In the list click the +sign next to network adapter
If the D-link card shows up with a yellow excalamation mark there is a driver conflict
If the D-link card shows up with a yellow question mark there is no driver
