hi graeme i did as you suggested used eyeglass cleaner though, low&behold it worked BUT i played it for about 20 mins skipping songs back and forth to see if it would mess up, worked fine i then put a cd-r in (sony) and it came up 'no audio' tryed a couple of times same thing,so i tried a verbatum cd-r well it froze right up, tray would not even open i hade to turn it off and back on and then hold the eject button to get it out, now it won't play cds again any ideas

I also have the yamaha cdr-s1000. The problem with this machine is that it will only accept blank disc that have a mark that reads "compact disc digital audio recordable or compact disc digital audio re-writable". No other discs will work. The machine will eject them after about ten seconds or so. The problem is finding blank disc that have that mark on them. I can't find them anywhere.

Hi Rick

The unit has stopped reading discs. I suggest taking the lid off and cleaning the laser lens with a cotton bud with a little Windex , then give it a gentle polish to be sure no residue smearing is left. If that does not fix it, check to see what actually happens when you load a disc. Does the transport fully engage and clamp the disc correct into the chucking assembly. Let me know how you got on:)

regards
Graeme

Its an optic problem I am afraid. New optics required for spec operation. Check with your local Yamaha parts agent for a costing to replace the complete transport(or at more effort an optic block) . They are easy to change, and most go straight outa the box. :)

My Yamaha CDR D651 appears to dislike new 50x maxell CD-r discs saying not audio. Works fine with 12x discs. What's wrong? Rowan

you probably have regular cd-r disks that cannot be recorded on in this unit. You can only use disks marked "DIGITAL AUDIO" for recording

PHILIPS CDR 870 FLASHING "OPCFAIL" AND WON'T RECORD

I HAVE A PHILIPS CDR 870 "OPC FAIL" PROBLEM. I HAVE RECORDED ONTO CD-RW, AND NOT YET FINALISED THE DISK AFTER RECORDING, IN ORDER THAT I CAN GO BACK LATER TO ADD FURTHER RECORDINGS. AFTER SWITCHING THE MACHINE BACK ON OPC THEN OPC FAIL FOLLOWS, EVEN WITH NEW DISKS CD-R AND CD-RW. MGHT THE MACHINE ITSELF REQUIE CLEANING OR IS THIS A FAULT? I AM USING MAXCELL DISKS, BOTH TYPES. THANKS. JEREMY. GATESHEAD.

My cd recorder wont read blank cds help me please

Do as it asks, insert blank CD-Audio or CD-Music media.

Discs for recording
For recording, make sure to use special audio discs only.
These discs are marked with “Digital Audio” and the logos shown below.
There are two different types of audio discs for the use on this CD recorder:
– CD-Audio Recordable (CDR) discs
These discs can be recorded on once and
play in all standard CD players and CD
recorders, when they are finalized.
– CD-Audio ReWritable (CDRW) discs
These discs can be recorded on, erased and
re-recorded many times and play in CDRW
compatible CD players and CD recorders,
when they are finalized.
– All Philips CD players and CD recorders
with the sticker shown here are CDRW
compatible.
To ensure proper working of the set we recommend the use of Philips audio CDR and audio CDRW discs only.
Note: Do not use a computer CDR or CDRW as recording will not work!

Go here and download the manual. You'll need it.

RCA CD recorder/player CDRW120

You sure it's recognizing the CDR? And you are using 'consumer audio' cdr? Watch it at all times. If it 'opc fails' after you put a blank in it still shows as a CDR and 0:00 on the display but won't record. It's easy to miss.

NO RECORD

This message usually indicates that a non-audio disc is in the record tray. Please use only blank music CD-R or CD-RW media. Refer to page 12 of the owners manual for more information regarding acceptable media type for the DA-3826. Also, the laser lens in your CD might be dirty or failing. Try the following solutions: Clean the laser lens with a CD player lense cleaning disc. Lense cleaning discs are available at many electronics retail store. Sorry i can't help you more.
