Question about Toshiba 50H13 50" Rear Projection Television

Toshiba 50h13 image trembling

For the last month when you first turn the TV on the image is trembling.
We thought it might be the cable box, yet the other TV (winbook) is not doing that.
Help? Any fixes? Is this thing about to die on us?
I believe we bought it in 2004, give or take a year.

I purchased the same tv in 02-03. Recently I have had wavy bars on the top of the screen. It would go away after a while. Now its whole screen and not even watchable. Can I fix it myself or do I need to call a tech?

How much should the fix cost? Thanks for you help.

Something is not in tolerance in the deflection circuits if it is an up and down tremble its vertical deflection related and if its shakey from side to side its horizontal deflection. You will most likely need a skilled tech for this type of repair.

Toshiba HD ready TV ct 90158 makes high pitched sound

A high pitch sound can be a capacitor losing power it would sound a bit like a fire work. most have back up on the board but it put more pressure on them the more times you use the tv. would check them and replace. all of them can be 5 in a row in some models.

If going through a cable box you may be loosing signal from time to time. Try playing a DVD to rule out the possibility that its your tv. Try replacing cable box, or add a cable amplifier. Hope this helps.

I have the same issue. Bought the TV 1/08 and it started showing those exact symptoms about 3-4 months ago. It generally progresses and gets worse. You can try to fix it as it's some kind of TAB connector issue, or keep calling Sony so that the 52" owners of the XBR4 and 5 series get the extended warranty just like the 46" owners received for the same series. If enough of us keep calling, they'll have to act.

Cannot set screen width

Both the TV and the Cable box have Aspect(height/width) settings. You must confirme the setting on the cable box and then do the TV.

1. Set TV to Native, this should show image exactly as the cable box sends it.
2. change Aspect settings on the cable box until you get one that works
3. if you get a good one, then your OK. You will just need to find a setting between the 2 devices that work for you. Also, these settings may change automatically for the TV or cable box based on the channel

Picture too large for screen

If the television is connected to a cable box such as Time Warner's HD box, the picture mode can be changed by pressing the '#' on the cable box's remote keypad (where the channel numbers are). This cycles the picture between zoom, normal, and stretch which could be cause of your problem.
