my samsung slimfit tv is making a horrible high pitched noise, the video and audio are fine but this high pitched squealing noise is too much to bear. i called a service rep and he said it was common and there was a coil inside that needed to be replaced. he said it would be about $85.00 but they are on vacation for the next 3-4 weeks :(

this problem is from a transformer tray or some such thing, my tv was under warranty when this happened to me, I waited 3 mos. for a part that Samsung knew they didn't make anymore and I was given a 32 lcd as a warrenty replacement.

That my friend is the high voltage transformer with a tiny pin hole allowing the high voltage to arc to ground. The red wire going to the picture tube is carrying 30 thousand volts to the anode connection on the CRT. This is not a consumer replaceable part as the CRT can retain healty voltages even when off. Refer to a local TV technician.

Picture and sound gone

The Flyback Transformer is probably shorted to the core and shorted out the Horizontal Output Transistor. Changing both will probably fix your problem. Let me know if this helps.

RCA 35" no picture, clicking zapping sound

What you are hearing is the discharge of high voltage which if it hasn't already failed, will fail if allowed to repeat too often.
The only thing you might try after unplugging the set for a minimum of 24 hours, is to remove the back shell (shouldn't be more than 8-10 screws around the perimeter and perhaps one or two around the connector cutout) and with a clean paintbrush and a vacuum cleaner with the nozzle held close to the work area, brush the CRT (picture tube) free as possible of accumulated dust, paying particular attention to the area around the large rubber cap with a cable leading to the circuit board.
I can't stress enough that the set must be ignored to allow the 25,000 plus volts that are present on the CRT when operating are given a chance to 'bleed off.' This voltage doesn't often kill anyone since it is a short-term discharge with the set off but I have seen it punch a hole through a thumb.

If you are lucky, the horizontal circuit is not in its death throes but only discharging through a layer of typical household crud. Unfortunately, this will not likely help you and you will require a tech to locate the problem. Good luck finding one that isn't dead or retired yet; we are dwindling.

RCA 32V524T- Blown fuse?

If you blew the fuse, the TV would do absolutely nothing - no lights, no sounds, nothing. It could be that the loud zapping noise you heard was the high voltage transformer arcing or shorting out. This could have caused the horizontal output transistor to short, and the set will not start as a result. You should have the set serviced by a qualified tech.

Wierd sound when I switch on the TV

Your TV may something arcing inside of it. Maybe a loose connection. Since it is probably under warranty you should get in touch with the dealer where you purchased it. Perhaps you can get the whole TV replaced. Stargazer

No picture / No Sound / No nothing

that sounds like the Hi voltage transformer went bad.. If your a tech simply disconnect the horizontal output transistor and see if thats shorted. If it is then it is for sure the HV transformer. If its not shorted look in the main power supply. Its cost is around 40 bucks or so and the transistor is about 15 to 20 bucks. This entire repair should cost ya around 150 to 175. So if you decide this tv is the one you like then have it fixed. Good Luck
