Hi there,

Well most gas dryers have one thermal fuse and some have two thermal fuses wired in series with the motor. If any of the thermal fuses are blown that could be one of the reasons of your dryer not starting. So first of all you may check out the fuse.

Good Luck!!
Thanks for using FixYa!!

No power to circular saw

Remove the part of the handle over the switch and have a multi meter handy. Plug the cord in and test for voltage where the cord goes into the switch. No power, replace the cord; power, go on. Have someone hold the swtich on and test for voltage coming out of the switch. No power, replace the swtich; no power, go on. Check the condition of the brushes and brush springs. They have to be in good contact with the armature to work properly. If the brushes are OK, you may have a problem with the armature or field. These are usually checked at a service center with equipment most people don't have. If you got this far and haven't found the problem, it may be better to get a new saw.

Wont Run unless hold start switch

You most likely have a faulty motor centrifugal switch. This switch is engaged when the motor starts rotating. The switch itself could be faulty or the inertia-mechanism that activates the switch could be faulty. The inertia-mechanism usually has two small springs that pull it back into its resting position when the motor stops turning. I have found that the springs will sometimes break and produce the symptom you have described.

Below is a diagram of common centrifugal switches. The switch will be mounted on the end of the motor.

My dryer would not run when I pulled the knob to start. I took the power cord out of the wall outlet. When I replace the cord into the outlet and pulled the knob the outlet sparked.

you most likely have a loose wire inside that wall outlet. use an extension cord to plug your dryer into another outlet that you know works properly and see it your dryer will work on that power source. If it does, just replace the receptacle in that wall outlet. If the dryer still wont run, then you know you have a problem with the dryer itself. If that is the case get back and I can talk you through solving that problem also.

Plug dryer in wall wont start

The most obvious thing to me is that the cord may have been loosened or damaged by the move, or the terminals in the machine may have loosened. Either test the cord on your "new" machine, or replace it with a known "good" cord. Wait a minute....you already have one of those....
Try it, it may be the very thing!

Dryer wont start. starter switch is new and timer will run when the door is closed

HI. if the timer is running, and the wiring harness is in good condition, this will confirm motor failure. I would advise to test the operational value of the door switch as well but if the door switch is working, this will only lead to motor failure.

Dryer not working

Assuming the problem is associated with you changing the cord, it sounds like you have a wire crossed on the power cord. Double check how you have the cord installed first. If that is correct check your power to the dryer. Since you changed the type of cord, I assume you have had outlet replaced or have just moved to new house. If you have a fuse box instead of a breaker box, check your fuses. It takes two fuses for the dryer. If one of them blows, the motor will run but you wont get heat. The motor runs on 120 but it needs 240 for the element. I can't count how many people have bought a new dryer just to find out they only had a house fuse blown and nothing was wrong with their old dryer. If you have had wall outlet changed there could be a wire crossed in it.
