Question about KitchenAid KSRD22FKBT / KSRD22FKWH / KSRD22FKBL Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Kitchenaid ksrj25cnst refrig does not cool but freezer is fine

Freezer works fine, but the refrigerator does not cool, air diffuser is not clogged. When I have both doors freezer & refrig open, I can fee the cool air at air diffuser coming from freezer into refrig side, but as soon as I close the door of freezer, the air flow stops. I think there must be another air duct beftween freezer and refrig to keep the cool circulating from freezer to refrig.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

This refrig model is ksrd25cnst, made in 2004.

Thanks ahead

Jay

I believe I have a similar problem. KitchenAid Model KSRS25ILBT02 Mar 2003 Freezer is working fine but is not cooling on the refrigerator side. I checked to see if the air flow vents are clogged but after letting it sit for hours and restarting it, the problem is still the same. Does the Air Diffuser contain it's own small fan that helps cool air to be transfered from the freezer to the refrigerator? Or does the fan that is housed in the back panel of the freezer the only fan that provides the air flow?

I have a kitchenaid, KSRS25RSMS01, refrigerator and the freezer is fine and the fridge is not cooling. I have checked the evaporator and it has normal frost, and the fan is turning fine, but the air coming...

Your frig has the classic symptoms of a frig with a clogged or blocked vent between the
freezer section and the refrigerated section. This clog can occur due to (a) stuff in the freezer blocking the vent, or (b) ice in the freezer blocking the vent, or (c) both of the above.

The way a refrigerator works is it cools the freezer, and the warmest air in the freezer is vented out
to the refrigerator section. If this vent is blocked (and everything else is working), your refrigerator
just became a eye-level small freezer atop a well-insulated section of dangerously warm food.

KitchenAid Superba fridge section not cooling, freezer is cold.

You have done a good job of attempting to diagnose by process of elimination, but this is a more complex system. I have provided some links below to assist you in diagnosing your problem. Links courtesy of www.repairclinic.com.

1. Ascertain that the evaporator fan is operational. This may be controlled by the Door Switch, (No.4) and could cause the fan to be inoperable.
2. Ascertain that the Fresh Food compartment light goes off when door is closed.
3. The air diffuser may be faulty by not controlling the air flow from the freezer properly

Tip: Always maintain dual temperature control settings at equal or +/- 1 setting position.

How refrigerators work:

You will need to verify operation of the following components listed below:

1. Evaporator fan motor
2. Air diffuser assembly
3. Light switch for refrigerator/freezer light
4. Door switch

Refrigerator side not cold

if you have frost build up on rear wall of freezer section then your unit is not going through defrost. its either defrost heater, defrost thermostat (which are both located on evaporator) or defrost timer

Kitchenaid Side by side refrigerator section is not cooling the freezer is over cooling

SINCE THE FRESH FOOD SECTION GETS ITS COOLING BY AIR CIRCULATION FROM THE FREEZER, THERE MUST BE A RESTRICTION IN AIR FLOW SOMEWHERE. CHECK THE FREEZER EVAPORATOR AND FAN TO BE SURE THAT THE FAN IS RUNNING, AND THE EVAPORATOR IS NOT RESTRICTED WITH FROST. CHECK THE DAMPER OPENINGS FROM THE FREEZER SIDE TO BE SURE THEY AREN'T ICED OVER. IF IT IS AN ELECTRONIC CONTROL, CHECK THE THERMISTOR CIRCUIT FOR PROPER RESISTANCE. TECH SHEET INSTALLED BEHIND THE TOE PLATE SHOULD GIVE THAT INFORMATION.

Freezer is very cold and refrig is not

make sure the return air is open, that is a vent on the side wall of the refrigerator above the crispers on the center mullion. and check to see if the evaporator fan motor is running.

Freezer is very cold and refrig is cool

Hi. As long as the evaporator motor is working its one of the two as you mentioned. If the compressor and evaporator fan is running and the refrigerator door has been open, with the freezer door closed, reach into the back left top where the diffuser is located and put your hand in front of it and see if any air is coming out. You should feel a moderate breeze. If not, open the freezer door with your hand in front of the diffuser and if the air comes out good now, the return air is blocked (normally ice build up). If no air is felt, the damper is most likely bad. Use a mirror and see if the damper is closed or frosted up. This can happen from the refrigerator or freezer door being left open for some time.If you have a mechanical damper, make sure it is set in the middle. You want more air to the refrigerator section. Email me on ebay, user name themackshack if you need parts! Good luck, Mack

Frezzer is fine but fridge is warm

See if cold air is coming out of the air diffuser top-back freezer side of fridge. A common problem is a bad air diffuser assembly. Sometimes it may freeze closed and break when it tries to cycle. The freezer usually works fine.
