The other thing is if use these non-Epson inks you will spoil your printer for sure. And it will also effect the warranty of your printer.

these Non-Epson cartridges don't last long. There are just like use and throw. You can only refill them once and after that it will spoil.Whereas in the case of original one you ca refill aas many times as you wish.

So i finally suggest you not to go for that instead buy a genuine one you will not face any problems.

You can buy a Chip Resetter for around £5.00(Try E Bay)
this will reset the chips on the cartridge. Or you can buy refillable
cartridges which are self (Chip) resetting

Ink cartridges cannot be recognized

The printer must detect unique 'chips' on the ink cartridges before it will print. Non-Epson ink cartridges may not have the right chips. Or there may be a bad electrical connection between the carriage assembly and the chips when cartridges are in place. Anything preventing the chips from being electrically connected, (including dirty contacts), can cause the error.
In my case the chips were not staying in place on the ink cartridges. Since I am using a CIS (Continuous Ink System), the chips had been replaced, but were not staying in alignment with the contacts on the carriage. I used a very small amount of hot melt glue to secure the loose end of each chip to each cartridge. I have not received the error message again.

Epson R285 need service utility

It sounds a lot like you have managed to reset the printer using the R290 adjustment utility and it now thinks that your printer is an R290 printer.

As a result it's rejecting the yellow cartridge (presumably the first to read empty since you reset the printer) and expects you to provide R290 consumables.

The only fix that I've heard suggested (and I'm still waiting to hear if it worked) if to get someone with a valid R285 to use the same adjustment utility to make a backup of the EEPROM data (nothing else), save this file, send it to you, and then for you to restore that same data to your own printer EEPROM.

As I said, I haven't heard if it works and I could be wrong about the cause but as I provide waste kits myself and have already had quite a few people report a similar issue I suspect I'm about right.

Hope that helps.

Why does everyone go quiet when I mention Epson r285 , 2 red flashing lights and service needed. Does no-one of you highly intelligent boffins know how to reset a simple printer. Ive asked and asked on...

Bit late in replying but this guide for dealing with the R285 has been up for a while now.

It tackles everything from installing a waste ink tank to resetting the waste ink counter.

Wrote the thing myself following quite a bit of interest... Hope it helps.

Non epson ink in r220 printer

Yes, you will need to purchase a chip resetter to get this to work. They work by resetting the firmware in the printer to accept non epson chipped ink. You can pick these up online for around £20.00

Ink not empty

You have confused the software in either changing a cartridge when not required or having a chip failure whilst changing multiple cartridges.
Full info on how to get out of this is on my site.

Please go to my website http://www.the-inkstore.co.uk . I have the latest version of SSC Service Utility to download directly onto your computer and instructions on how to use it, what to click on etc etc. Click any of the Epson links if you can't find it, everything you need to know will be there, including printer Firmware resetting which sorts out a multitude of problems.

The 'maintenance required' problem with Epson printers has absolutely nothing to do with which cartridges you are using, it is a built in page counter in your printer firmware, which has a different maximum amount for each Epson model. Don't listen to old wives tales and heresay, we are the experts and it's an Epson scam to cause a lot of people to pay for maintenance or throw their printers away.
I haven't found a model that can't be reset with the latest version of SSC Serve or the manual reset on my site.

For Epson RX500 users there is also a manual reset on my site, as the SSC Serve software won't do it for you.
When using the program & choosing your printer from the list, it may have a weird name with 'x' in the model number, this is because some configurations are for many models in a series. For example, the C46 will be listed as C4x as it is for the C42, C44 & C46 models.

I hope this helps all Epson users to overcome the Epson scam of page counting and locking out until you pay their dealers money for maintenance.

If you like what I've done for Epson users, please show your appreciation by spreading the word and perhaps buying your ink from my site.

Happy trouble free printing
