My D-Link DSL 300T Modem has stopped distributing IP addresses despite the setup page saying that this feature is enabled. This is leading to a constant error message as the IP address is the same as the router. I am running an iMac 2.8 Ghz and MacBook Pro with Leopard 10.5.2 on both. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Alex

I can not change router ip

You need to change the router's IP to avoid conflict with the modem's IP address. You just need to access the router's setup page , default is 192.168.1.1. Default username should be left blank and default password is admin. Once logged in , first page you will see is the Basic Setup page. Just look on themiddle part of this page and there you will see the IP address of the router. Most of the time, if the user has DSL connection , Linksys' IP should be changed to 192.168.2.1. Dont forget to click on Save Settings at the bottom of the page. It will then say Settings are successful. Now click on continue. You can then power off then power back on the router for the changes to apply

In order to enable DHCP back in your computer, Please follow these steps:

Click on start than go to control panel than network connection, in Network connection right click on Local Area connection and go to properties there you need to select internet protocol (tcp/ip) and than click on Properties Tab there you will find two options to select

1. Obtain the Ip address automatically
2. USe the following Ipaddress

You need to select Obtain the Ipaddress automatically and than Obtain the DNS server address automatically

Than click on Okay and it will enable you DHCP server,

Computer says connected to internet,, wont display page

usually routers are setup using DHCP... on your second computer. try going to
start, control panel,  networkconnection,  "your LAN connection",\ properties Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (should be checked)
Obtained Ip address automatically should be selected
Obttained Dns server automatically should be selected.
then click OK, OK to save settings...

if your router is not setup as a DHCP,it would require you to setup your ip address manually... let me know if this dont work, so  i can help u setup manually...

if it helps, try comparing the settings of your pc1 and pc2 (the network connection settings)

hi there ...

your isp is at&t? please verify the ip address straight to the modem if its is 192.168.1.1 and if your modem from your isp is set to DHCP or BRIDGE mode.

IF IP address is 192.168.1.1 (DHCP)
... change the LAN IP address of the router to 192.168.2.1 or 5.1 to prevent any IP conflict
by doing this :

1. access setup page of router usually 192.168.1.1
2. under setup tab look for the ip address, change it, then save
3. click on the status tab , and look for a VALID ip address

IF MODEM is set to BRIDGE mode
.... please ask username and password from your ISP coz we would need to set your router to PPOE...
1. access setup page
2. under setup tab look for INTERNET CONNECTION TYPE
3. select PPPoE
fill in username and password
select "keep"alive
save
4. click on status tab
look for LOG in TYPe ===> click CONNECT
if connected : check a valid IP address
if authentication failed verify again your username and password from your ISP

Goodluck!

Ip problem

It is common to have this as the default IP to connect to equipment.

I suggest you unplug your modem while you set up your router. You can also change the default IP for the router while in the settings. be sure to remember the new IP or you will have to do a factory reset to get it back to default

Ip and proxy error

well, if you know how to setup the ip addresses manually both on your modem / router and on the ps3 i recommend you do that... but bear in mind that your dhcp server (on your modem / router) should prohibit automatic assignment of that same ip address with your ps3... for that you have to specify a range of automatically assignable ip addresses apart from your ps3...

if you have the dmz (demilitarized zone) option on your modem / router, set it up for the ip address of your ps3, which you've setup manually...

example:

router ip: 192.168.2.1
ps3 ip: 192.168.2.10
ip address pool: 192.168.2.100 - 192.168.2.250 (this shpould be manually setup not to interfere with the fixed ip address of the ps3)
dmz host: 192.168.2.10 (ip address of the ps3, which enables "opens" all of the ports for this ip address)

apart from that if you use any proxy servers to connect to the net, you have to specify these in ps3 settings as well...

there are a lot of threads on various forums on how to tweak your network connection to optimize for ps3...

i hope this solves your problem...

No access to set up modem or router

you might have configured your lan settings wrongly.

If your modem was setup for DHCP then you configure your lan to receive IP address automatically, DNS automatically.

If DHCP is disabled on the modem, you have to USE static IP Address for your lan ip and default gateway should be your modem default ip.

the default IP for modem is usually 192.168.1.1
if DHCP is disabled on the modem the sys ip is 192.168.1.3

So Configure your LAN setting as follow and Type http://192.168.1.1 in the address url.

Lan Settings:
IP Address: 192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

click ok.
and type the above url, press enter the modem will ask you for username and password.

Good Luck.
