To run dual monitors will require you to install a PCI video card.

SOURCE: cpu upgrade dell dimension 5100

Whomever answered this before doesn't know what they are talking about. What matters is the technology used in the processor. Obviously you couldn't take a 775 Socket processor from a computer made today and put it in your computer. Your computer has to be able to recognize it. Your system most likely has a Pentium 4 (P4) Prescott Processor. I believe all Prescotts are 90nm technology and I know from other websites that the 5100 will take at least a 650 which 3.4Ghz which is no longer sold that I can find so you have to find it on ebay. Hope this helps!

rearward removal, there are a couple of latches you have to push so you can slide it backward (towards the processor end) and lift it up, one of the latch is next to Hard Disk compartment and the other one is on the other side. dont forget to clean the thermal paste on the processor and heatsink and reapply new thermal paste when you put everyhing back.

Dell desktop computer wont turn on

Hello, make sure there is a green light on the front of the monitor, if not then no connection from pc to monitor, Make sure monitor is plugged in and powered up, and cable is connected into the pc. If all this is connected, then you either have bad video card, or motherboard for video or bad monitor.

Graphic card location inside an E520

The Dell 520's manual can be downloaded here. The PC's motherboard optionally has a VGA Video Connector (integrated) as shown on Page 1 of the manual. If yours is equipped with this option, there is no graphics card installed - it is built into the motherboard itself. It can not be removed or separated from the PC.

Your PC may have a a separate video card installed into one of the expansion slots on the motherboard. Page 1 also shows this installed below the USB 2.0 connectors as the PCI Express graphics card.

Here's an internal view:
4_17_2012_1_20_10_pm.jpg

The video card in the picture is driving two standard analog VGA monitors (blue cable connectors) through a DVI -> VGA adapter (white and clear devices) this is connected to the video output connectors. If you look closely at the edge of the PC in the picture (directly above the USB & network cables) you should be able to see an unused VGA Video Connector (integrated). Most computer BIOS systems will automatically disable any built in video capabilities of the motherboard when a separate video card is detected. Check the manual for additional info about these BIOS settings.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Can't get 1600x900 Resolution

Your graphics card may not be able to display this screen resolution.
Open Control Panel - Display - Settings tab and move the slider on the Screen resolution - to get as close to 1800 X 900 then click apply.

What do I need to replace my dell monitor with a sony monitor? My dell does not have a removeable cord.

I believe all you need is 15 pin VGA (analog) video cable. The PC and the monitor has female connectors, so you need a male to male cable. Make sure you get a good quality cable or you may get gohsting etc. Confirm the connector type at the back of the PC and the monitor before buy the cable.

My monitor is getting red color is there any solution

Hello !

Well, there is a problem with either your monitor, VGA cable or video card.

If you wiggle the VGA cable (the cable connected from your monitor to computer) and the color changes, the VGA cable is faulty.

Either connect your monitor to a different computer or connect a different monitor to your computer to see the results.

If your monitor works on another computer, your video card is faulty. If a different monitor works on your computer, then your monitor is faulty.

Hope this helps.

Hi,how do I know wheather I need DVI or VGA cables to connect CPU to a Monitor.I sold monitor when I got laptop now I want set up the Dell Dimension 3100 as aback up,so I'm looking at wide sreen monitors...

Most of the Widescreen monitors come with DVI as well as VGA connector. A VGA connector and DVI connectors are different in many aspects. First of all the DVI connector would be white in color and VGA would be blue.
VGA connector has 15 pins and DVI has 24 +1 pin

Dell C521 Where to connect monitor?

This means that you have an external video card (which is not outside the computer). This video card will be plugged into the motherboard. That message is saying that the port on the back of the computer that your monitor is plugged into is the wrong one. You need to look for another port on the back of the computer.

Here is a picture of a VGA port that you should use if you have a VGA cable to connect the monitor (Blue Ends).

Here is a picture of a DVI port that you should use if you have a DVI cable to connect the monitor (White Ends).

So depending on the cable and connections that are available on your computer and your monitor depends on what you have to use. I hope that wasn't too confusing. Let me know if you need more info.

No 9 pin video socket

Most video cards use a 15 pin VGA connector.

There is also a 9 pin VGA connector, but they are a lot less common - I'm guessing this is what you have.

Is the video cable hard-wired into your monitor or is it connected via a plug? If it's a plug, is that a 15 or 9 pin? If it's a 15 pin, then all you need to do is buy a new 15-15pin VGA cable.

If it's hard-wired, you'll need to buy some sort of adapter. These are available and don't cost much either, but you might need to try a more specialist computer store to find one.

Hope this helps!

Dell dimension monitor output broke away from motherboard and now i get no output to monitor to "wake it up", nevermind being able to see anything on it. As soon as i unplug the monitor cable from the pin...

Depending on how much it has broke away, you may be able to resolder it back on, or find someone who can. Other than that it will be a new board, I suspect.

It seems at least a few connections are OK, so probably worth a try, before scrapping it.

Memory module

Your motherboard supports 533MHz memory modules, no more. If you put anything higher in, it will work, but only at the speed of 533MHz, so there's not much point in aiming any higher. Just make sure what you're buying is a DDR2 533MHz memory module, and it's best to get them in increments of 2. If you have 4 slots on your motherboard, get another 2x512MB modules of RAM. If you're running Windows Vista, it might be worth considering 2x1GB modules. I think that pretty much covers your question, if you have anything else to ask, feel free to reply.
