Question about Samsung PS42P2S 42 in. Plasma Television

3 Answers

This unit is a B mobel PS42P2SB

Unit has a PPR2200 media station(tuner) which is used tp connect several sources to. It appears to have taken a dump this morning it switchs on and off rapidly repeatedly. Yhe display connection is DVI-I. I am in the US and need a replacement unit for the media station that will accept DVI-I. Maybe any adapter to RCA component would work..

Any info would be greatly appreciated

That's the switched PSU unit that is designed to do this. For me it was the diode short circuit along with the resister blow as a result.

replaced both and all up and working again.

Can my Olivia LCD LT26 be hooked to an indoor had antennae? Once antennae hooked up what are next steps?

Yes. Depending on your location depends on how well it will work. If you are in the US you can go to antennaweb.org and get a fairly accurate idea if an indore antenna will work and what you can expect to receive. After you connect your antenna you need to do a channel search.

Tv stays on one channel,no color or picture just ghost or outline, i have a Sharp lc46sb 54u

Check the settings to see if it is locked on channel 3 for external tuner source to have an input from a cable box ant in that needs 3 to function or from some other externally decoded signal like a vcr. Does the TV have a Digital tuner or the old analog tuner? If it's digital you can hook up a rabbit ear antenna with the UHF output on it & should be able to tune in some stations. If it's the old style then you will need a converter box to get it to receive any stations.
Fist check the settings to see if it has it set to lock on channel 3 for external tuner source.

I don't have signal on my tv and there are no program's to watch as they are all blank. Is just a brand new tv I bought like 2 days ago

What make and model of TV do you have? What is your signal source (OTA (indoor or outdoor antenna), cable, satellite)? How is the TV connected to the source?

The model is important since some "TVs" are actually only monitors and do not have tuners. Then you need to connect to a set top box to watch anything.

Assuming the TV has an ATSC (digital) tuner for OTA, check that your antenna is pointed in the correct direction for the stations in your area. Use antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to identify the direction. Antennaweb assumes an external antenna and gives a very conservative list of stations. TVfool tells you the type of antenna needed to get any station (assuming no trees or tall buildings that might block the signal). Depending on your TV, you will need to enter the menu in order to correctly set the incoming signal type and scan for channels. Digital signals are either enough for the tuner to interpret or not available. If your signal is split between several TVs you may need an amplifier to get enough signal. Sometimes, the amplifier may fail and filter out all stations in certain frequencies. (Older TVs often only had a NTSC tuner; there are very few NTSC stations still broadcasting. They are low-power and thus you may not be able to watch them if they are far away.)

If you have cable without a box, which type of cable signal is coming in? Digital cable is QAM and not all TVs have a clearQAM tuner (that reads the unencrypted signal).

If you are using a set top box, make sure to set the TV to the correct input (HDMI, component video, composite video, coax and the correct number if there are multiple inputs). Make sure that the box is also on. If the set top box requires the TV to be set to a specific channel (3,4,60), make sure to go to that channel.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(For the US, the digital OTA tuner is ATSC and QAM for cable. In other countries, different signal formats are used.)

TV does not autotune to all stations and does not store stations

The set has a EPROM somewhere that stores that info--either a stand alone one or one incorporated into the microprocessor the set uses.

The tuner if bad likely will not cause it to "forget" stored channels.

A possible way AROUND this would be the use of a cable/sat box connected to rear inputs on the set---you would sit on that input and change channels via the box which can usually be programmed to skip up/down channels you do not want---straight around the issue.

Have DPD 503PU Pioneer Plasma Display TV. There is no place to place cable cord and there are two cords missing, one gray and one white. Can you tell me what these cords plug into and where to get o

This may be the PDP 503PU. There are supposed to be two parts to the unit; you appear to have the Display but not the media receiver and the standard accessories for the receiver.

The media receiver has the inputs for coaxial cable and component video. The gray and white cables are the system cables which feed the signal from the receiver to the display. Most of the on-line sources that I deal with do not have the system cables in stock.

The manual for the unit is available from Pioneer: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/vgn/images/portal/cit_11221/50019PDP5030_4330_2002411152202500.pdf .

This unit should go to an E-waste recycling agency, IMO. Without the receiver and the system cables, it's useless. I wish that I had better news for you.

How do I change my pro-730 HD to a digital signal?

You need a set-top box with a digital tuner. (For HD, you will need an HD digital source if you have cable or satellite. For OTA, you need one of those HD tuners; the digital-to-analog converters available with the government coupon last year were SD units.) You may be able to use a computer with a USB or PCI card tuner. However, you may be limited to the VGA input on the TV unless you use a converter or have a video card that can output in a TV format. (I can't find the specs for the DVI on the TV to tell if it is compatible with the RGB of the default computer signal.)

If you are getting an OTA signal, you will need an appropriate antenna pointed at the transmitter. Use antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to find out the direction of the stations you should be able to receive. antennaweb is very conservative in the list it provides even though it assumes an outdoor antenna. tvfool gives more information on the antenna for each station in your area. Note: tall trees and buildings can block the signal even if you should get a signal. Digital signals are either enough for the tuner to read or no signal. An amplifier may be needed if you share your signal between several devices.

I hope this helps.

If it has not tuner/antenna input then it is just a monitor. At that point you will need a cable box,sat box or something to provide a picture scource to it.

No AVC media box

You should be able to use this with only the DVI connection as just a large monitor. You can use a DVI to HDMI adapter as I do believe the display is HDCP compliant. Many AV receivers will upscale to the necessary 1920x1080p resolution that the display needs.
