Question about Toshiba Satellite A105 Notebook

1 Answer

Faulty ex wife and my computer

My disgruntled now EX wife got into my toshiba satellite A105 and set-up or changed my previously unlocked laptop to now a secure unaccesssible paper weight I can do nothing with. It was a bad moment between us when she pulled this bogus move. I'm at a loss as to how or what to do and who or where to take it to that will be able to fix it. So now that divorce alimony, child support and daily life, my available funds are limited...so I'm looking to you experts for some insight on how either I can fix it or it can be fixed with minimal outlay of cash. Thanks for the help in advance...

Well before I could actually even get further or deeper into the fix on my laptop the ex-wife had a compromise for me. Needless to say after a quite involved bickering and bartering sesion, the end result is she is now the proud owner of this Toshiba laptop. I appreciate the fact that there is a resource like this to aid in repairs of this nature. Thanks for your time...J

Clock will not set for correct time. Manually change but this does not work.

Most likely the CMOS (Bios battery), which is a small silver coin shaped battery on the motherboard needs changing. This maintains the correct time when the laptop is switched off. They last for up to 3 years then need replacing. (example in picture)

Be careful in changing the battery, If you have not done this before, refer to a computer repair shop.

Does the bios boot up? Does the operating system start assuming windows xp? Are you looking to recover previous work or a fresh install?

you have to reset the bios physically, open the laptop and remove the lithium battery for a sec then put it back again or change the jbat jummper to 2-3 then back again, if your not familiar with it you can seek help to a computer technician

DVD RAM not reading the DVD on a Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop

did you try to insert other DVDs? if it works then the DVD that you are trying to play is faulty. But if all CDs cannot be read i suspected it's a dvd-rom drive faulty. you need to replace it.

hi...there... let me ask you first..what kind OS that you using now for A105 XP or Vista? ' cause i think you have problem with your Operating System that seem your OS is broken and need to reinstall.
first you must buy OS Cd same like you using before and MS Office Cd to for work with office.

Isuggest you to use original cd both for cd OS and Office. about your A105 driver you can put latter (if you have) or download it with typing at search egine (ex:google) " driver Tosibha Satellite A105" and chose driver depen the OS that you install for your A105

The drive is faulty. You need to replace the drive. The reason the DVD still works is because a combo drive has 2 different lasers; one for the CD and one for the DVD. So the CD laser is faulty.

Display Problem

Try connecting an external monitor if this also shows a "bad" picture then probably the graphics chip on the laptop is faulty.
