Just noticed it this morning. Camera will not turn on. I took the battery out, charged it, and put back in. Also took the memory card out, and put back in. Still not working. Travelled lastnight - camera was in my carry-on computer back pack. I'm not sure if it was damaged somehow from traveling. Please help.

From the day I bought it it had intermittent turn-on problems. So Now 6 months later it will not turn on at all (new batteries)! Others have same problem.

  • Anonymous Apr 07, 2009

My camera hasn't been used in a few months so I charged the lithium ion battery before I used it again. But the camera will not turn on. I tried reading the directions, but the only thing the directions say is how to use the camera for the first time. Should I just buy a new lithium ion battery? It says it is rechargable...I really don't want to have to buy a whole new camera.

I asked for help on line. Lots of people with same problem. No solutions to anyone's question unless you pay for it. Wasn't sure how a technician on the computer could look at my camera. Finally took it to a service center. I was told that sooner or later this happens to all digital cameras. He didn't charge me. I took it home and threw it in the garbage. End of problem.

Only for the ones who upgraded their memory cards...just make sure every time if your device is compatible with your new SD card...to make sure it is not SD HC card...if your camera dosen't support the new technology HC cards...hpOHM...

According to ehow:

Turn off your Canon 1000D and remove the memory card, lens, battery and time/date secondary battery. The secondary battery is a small, round battery about the size of a dime found in the same compartment as the main battery. It is located in a vertical slot. Slide out the secondary battery by pressing your finger on the battery and pulling it toward you.
  • Place the body cap on your camera to keep dust out. Attach the front and back lens caps on your lens to prevent scratches and other damage.
  • Let the camera sit for 20 minutes. This will clear the camera's memory.
  • Place the date/time secondary battery and a fully charged primary battery in the camera and turn it on.
  • Press the shutter release button (the button you push to take a picture). If you are still receiving an Error 99, the problem is most likely caused by the camera body itself. The camera body must be serviced by a professional camera technician.
  • Turn off the camera and insert the memory card. Turn the camera back on and press the shutter release button. If you are receiving an Error 99, the error is most likely caused by the memory card. Turn off your camera and insert a different memory card. Turn the camera back on and press the shutter release again.
  • Turn off the camera and reattach the lens. Turn on the camera and press the shutter release button. If you receive an Error 99, turn the camera off and remove the lens.
  • Turn the camera so that it is face down, and gently clean the lens contacts on the camera body with a number 2 pencil eraser or soft cloth. The lens contacts are the eight small, gold pieces on the bottom of the lens mount. Be careful not to let any of the eraser scraps fall into the camera body.
  • Turn the lens so that the side that attaches to the camera is upside down. Use the eraser or soft cloth to clean the lens contacts on the lens, being careful not to let any eraser scraps fall into the lens.
  • Reattach the lens to the camera. Turn on the camera and press the shutter release button. If you are receiving an Error 99, the error is most likely caused by the lens. Take the lens to a professional camera technician for repair.

Camera says turn off and turn on panasonic lumix dmc-fs5

    Hi,
While you are turning the camera on, hold the lever which you use for zooming in. The lens should extend before you get the annoying message about turning the the camera off and on. Then, gently apply pressure to the lens as if you wanted to push it back to the camera. While you are doing this, turn the camera off (lens should come back into the body of the camera). This will solve your problem.
    Thank you!

    Camera stabilizer is not available

check menu options is reasonable and first solutions. maybe is stabilizer turned off and you got the message. read the camera manual carefully, there is described how to turn on and turn off stabilizer. in manual, troubleshooting chapter has many solutions for camera and try to find one for stabilizer.
if all this can't help you go to service, something is wrong with camera software.
