Question about Toshiba 50H13 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Thank you for the help

I had alot of the tv taken apart until I realized that the IC chips are buried in between alot of scary stuff. I know when to say no.
I read someware that there is a place that will replace my chips if I send them the whole board? Or they will swap mine with another?
I could take that board out and put a new one in., Just not comfy with unsoldering tons o stuff.
Any suggestions?

Youre looking at a charge of about 350 to 400 dollars for that repair. The site I posted rebuilds boards. Leave an email and request a quote its sure to be cheaper than a local repair shop.

Nothing lights on the tv at all? Even the LED power indicator? Might have taken a power surge/hit. Chances are it popped a capacitor on the power supply or logic board. Nothing short of a actual electronics or tv repqair shop is going to help you unfortunateley. Unless you know how to look at circuit boards and are comfortable taking apart the tv while unplugged of course) but be careful becase the power supply can still carry a lethal charge on it if you are not careful. If you know somone who knows circuitboards and can solder and unsolder then you might get licky if it's a capacitor or a resistor. If it's a IC chip though you are going to have to buy a board or a powersupply. So again you really need to find a local tv repair shop.

This is symptom of convergence output chips failure in rear projection tv, replacement of convergence output chips will fix the problem.
Chips/ IC replacement requires soldering work in circuit board, if you are not familiar with electronics stuff fixing an soldering work, call local tv repairman to help you.

My 1080i has a triple picture, can you help?

Hi,
It definitely can be fixed the IC chips (called STKs) that line up the images from each picture tube are failing.Sometimes a fuse or resistor go out along with the chips. The parts would cost around $100 + whatever labor charge if you hire someone.

Look for the STK ICs mounted on 2 big heatsinks.
I would suggest to replace both of them once you have the TV taken apart.
I think the part markings are STK392-040.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Only Horizontal line

If you can hit it, it is probabl;y just bad solder joints on the vertilcal output IC (yes thats right vertical, because it stretches,or in your case compresses the picture vertically). kind of hard to point you to it if you've never been in a tv but it will be a little chip standing up mounted onto a piece of metal (heat sinc). There will be a few though the IC will likely have 1 row of pins maybe 7-10. And probably have a part number on it that begins with "LA" like maybe LA7838. You can tap around the different heat syncs with a NON-METALIC with the TV on until you find the one that is sensitive that should help you identify the vertical IC. Any way unplu flip the PCB over and resolder that IC. That should take care of it.
