Our computer does not recognize the hard drive. The blue light comes on as well as a flashing red light with a beep. Sounds like a faint clicking as well.

Same problem tonight! I panicked. No backup. Same soft click and blue light.
So, after many attempts at startup, I decided to open the drive case and remove the drive.
I placed it in another generic (firewire/usb) case. I hooked it up, plugged in the firewire cable, and it worked!
The Acomdata case failed - not the drive!

Exactly the same problem - all of a sudden - solid blue light and the computer doesn't recognize it.

I had the same problem with my iomega 320 external hard drive. The Hard drive is a seagate and I believe that the controller was made by Acomdata based on the number on the circuit board.

When my drive stop working I could here the drive still spinning when power was on.

I asked one of the tech guys at Fry's Electronics and he suggested that the board was bad and I replaced the enclosure (which comes with it's own controller card).

I took the drive out of the iomega enclosure and installed it into a new kingwin enclosure ($25.00usd @ fry's) and that took care of the problem.

I picked the Kingwin because it has pretty blue and orange leds. I do believe that a cheaper enclosure would do fine and I have seen them on the net for under $10.

I have looked for a replacement card, but they seem to be quite expensive .

This is cont. from my post on the previous issue.

I went as far as reloading windows on my pc to see if the problem was my pc did not help.
I now have a 500GB exteranl hard drive the pc is working fine with it so I know the problem is in the acomdata drive.

I think the key is a different manufacturer it so far is working fine.
I am bummed out the acomdata only lasted about 2 to 3 weeks before I had a problem or noticed i had a problem. Should I try to format the drive would this help?

Have you tried to connect the drive to a different computer? You can also try to open Disk Utility (use spotlight search to find it). My guess is it doesn't show up there which means there is a problem with the Buffalo device. The disk is most likely fine, just the Buffalo casing needs to be replaced.

Have you plugged in the AC power adapter? The blue light means it is connected to the computer but USB power is not enough to operate this drive.

I dropped my drive and now the computer won't recognize it. The blue light is on with the red light. Help!

Sorry to hear that your drive is having trouble. When you start the drive, do you hear it turning?
Is this a external that you can remove the hard drive? You may try to power down the external, power it back up and shut down your computer. The conect the external and turn the computer on.

Let me know if you can hear the driver turning and it you can connect after going thru the process above.

Computer is not recognizing my external hard drive

If the light won't blink, there could be problem with the power source. Do scanning hardisk for errors manually ( take off the hardisk from the case, assemble it on other PC Desktop)

Red Light/Blue Light I/O Error

My nx2 is working again after having the "red light/blue light/I/O Error" problem. I just:

1. turned off my computer
2.unplugged the HD,
3. took out the HD from the enclosure and plugged it back into the enclosure,
4.started up my computer without the HD being plugged in
5. after my computer had been on for a minute, I plugged the HD in and my computer recognized it and had the proper mixture of red and blue light coming from the HD, indicating it's working properly.

Good luck!

Try checking your power cord adapter.
I found the same problem was with the cord.
Luckily, I had another Acomdata HD cord to check the problem.

Worked fine for a year, now not recognized or functioning

I had the same issue- light was blinking from red to blue, could not get my computers (I have a Mac and a PC) to recognize the drive, sounded like the drive wasn't powering up...

I replaced the Acom drive enclosure with a new one (CP Technologies). I don't know if the drive enclosure or power supply was at fault-- but it wasn't the internal drive. Plugged it in and amazingly all my data was back. For thirty bucks it was far less than sending out the drive to a 'data recovery' expert!

Drive NOT being recognized by WinXP

Put your ear to the drive and verify if it is making any strange low level sounds. Check to make sure the usb connection wasnt affected. YOu wont need a driver as it appears to be hardware related. Either the enclosure or drive may be failing.
