Viewsonc VA720 Flickers On and Off Continuously

I have a Viewsonic VA720 LCD monitor which will flicker on just for an instant, then will go dark. After sitting a moment, it will do this again, and continously, about every 7 seconds. Green power light is mostly on, but goes out for a second or two every time the brief image goes dark. Seems like the monitor is booting, outputs a brief image, then turns off and restarts, continuously. I took the back off and probed the output of the main unshielded switching supply on the left, and found its outputs are at 12V most of the time, but drop to 2V or so when the monitor seems to be rebooting. Do you think this supply board needs to be replaced?
Thanks.

I checked capacitors visually, found bubbled one (3300 uf) and replaced it. Now monitor is OK.

It's a common problem with this monitor. A little Google searching will turn up inverter boards for sale that are supposed to fix things (for those who don't have the skill/knowledge to replace a single capacitor).

Take a look at the capacitors and see if you have any weak one. An obvious way to spot one would be one bubbled up on top. A bad cap won't always be bubbled up. The monitor probably can operate until the voltage drops under 8 volts. Also possible if power supply check out good would be a weak backlight inverter.

LCD monitor (viewsonic va720) "No signal"

You will need to disconnect the VGA cord that is connecting the monitor to the hard drive. Once you have that disconnected, try attaching another cord to determine if the cord is the issue. If you dont have another cord to test, then you will have to purchase another one from your local computer parts store and attach to determine if that is the issue you are having.

If the cord does not work, then you will have to take your monitor into a repair shop as there maybe an issue with the receiving port on the monitor.

I hope this was helpful and thanks for asking the experts.

What voltage do i need for my ViewSonic VA720

Monitors and PCs (amongst other things) use a fairly standard power cable. You should not need to worry about the specifics as there is generally no transformer needed for a monitor.
