Question about Kenmore 24 in. 15173 Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Kenmore Elite I replaced most of my appliances 3 years ago with Kenmore Elite and I've had problems intermittently while the appliances were under warranty, but when the repair person arrives, no problem is detected. Once the appliance is no longer under warranty, the problem becomes persistent. At one point when I explained the difficulty, the technical support person said something to the effect of, "Oh that's an easy one to fix. All you need to do is...Oh wait, the warranty expired on the 3rd. I can't provide you with technical support. Would you like to schedule for a repair technician?" Once I pay for repair, the appliance works like a dream, but a little customer service goes a long way. I will never purchase another appliance from Sears. Now that I'm done venting - My Kenmore Elite Stainless Steel dishwasher isn't getting the dishes clean. The door is grungy looking after a wash cycle, and the residual water is cloudy. Also, the cycles are extremely long. I assume part of the problem is the typical Sears appliance 'quality', but there is a filter somewhere that needs to be cleaned? Any ideas?

Hmm, I'll start at the top :->. Well, first thing is that Kenmore doesn't manufacture any appliances. The only thing Sears has is the name recognition, therefore, they have GE, LG, Whirlpool, and others to make appliances for them and Kenmore slaps on their label. On with the problems though :-> 1. Door is grungy looking. Make sure your air-gap ( if you have one) is clear and not clogged. If you don't have one, make sure the drain hose is mounted to the underside of the counter, under the sink. This will prevent Gookus from backfilling into your dw. 2. There are 3 main things to check when repairing dw - Circulation, Heat, and Drainage. There's not much else. Here are some tips to address each one. a) Make sure all spray arms are turning. Put in one position, close door, run, open, and verifiy they moved. If not, clean holes in spray arms, or, remove filter and clean around impeller or chopper. I find clogs all the time. b) Heat. Make sure you are running your hot water in the sink until max hot water is reached. This is very important and should be listed in the users manual. Most dw's run several cycles before the heater element is energized. Water must be 120F when entering dw. c) Hard Water buildup. Use Lemon Shine, available from Walmart. This will clean the dw and prevent buildup on dishes. d) drainage. Addressed above. I've seen countless times where food and other gookus goes right down garbage disposal and into the dw drain line, where it recirculates on to dishes. Make sure air-gap is clear or that hose is secured to underside of countertop. e) Make sure the element is working. Once easy way to check is to verify dishes are dry at the end of the cycle. If not, call a service tech and get fixed. I've found black mold (splatter) on inside of dishwasher due to heater element bad. Hope this help!

Stever,
Call where you purchased it and have them send out a service tech. Most appliances are under warranty for a year from purchase.

Kenmore Elite: Model 66576962K601.

I had exact same issue. I've called Sears Maintenance. They had to change 2 pieces in UI: Timer KUDS02SRB10 and CONSOLE Assy. Cost 360$ pieces 130$ Job Charge 60$ taxes.
Now It works perfectly, but I bought 1100$ 3 years ago... Really expensive to keep it running.

Leaking Kenmore Elite at the right front of dishwasher

Sorry to hear of your plight. My advice is to ask for a new machine under the lemon law since they cannot get it fixed. You can also try calling Whirlpool who is the manufacturer but they are likely to tell you to work with Sears. They were out under warranty and it has not remained fixed so the warranty should carry through since you called for service while still in warranty. I feel for the tech because it is frustrating to have a problem that you cannot find a cure for be the tech should also have escalated it to the tech support line for resolution. Kenmore Elite 17483 Dishwasher Caught Fire!

Had the exact same problem (Control panel burning up, sparking, and smoking during wash cycle) last night with our Kenmore Elite DW model 665.16293400 purchased Nov. 2004. I have reported it to the CPSC and www.kitchenaidfire.com and will be contacting Sears first thing tomorrow. It is outrageous that this problem is apparently so widespread with nothing being done about it! I have no doubt my kitchen would have been in flames if I had not been sitting right here to shut off power to the D/W.

I had the same problem when I bought it and it just happened again; the problem is solved by ressting the control panel: Hi Temp ---> Heated Dry two or three times. It kind of goes into a testing cycle and the clean blinking light goes off.
