This is a very common problem with laptops. The DC power jack becomes loose from too much strain on the power cord or in some cases from poor design. If you are not comfortable messing with it yourself you will have to take it to a repair shop. I would also try a different power cord first.

I have a problem with my sony vaio!it seems to crush when i move the charger!its not shutting down but the scen is off and then i have to remove the charger so it shuts down and turn it on again!plus it...

It sounds like a loose connection in the charger cord or the AC jack. If the laptop is pulled by the cord it could have loosened/damaged the AC jack. If you remove the battery and only use the AC cord does the problem change? if you only use the battery and no AC cord does that change the problem? When Power is removed, without a proper shut down, the machine sees it as a crash therefore the disk check and black screen with boot options.

where you having any issues before this happened?have you tested the memory, checked ram seated correctly, hard drive, cables all properly fitted?

remove the battery from the pc and the power cord.
then press the start button for one minute to discharge all electricity from the motherboard.
then put the ac cord back in and wait 10 seconds.then press the start button.you may have a faulty battery so try the ac cord procedure first.

My computer is randomly shutting down. Sometimes it will work and other times it will not. I think the processor is overheating and causing it to unexpectedly shut down. the screen goes black, the power...

Few reason for the shut down
Could be heat, electrical,

1. try cleaning all vents with compress air in order to remore dust and fuzz that can be cloging the vents.
Once this done, verify that fans works proprelly,(check air flow coming out of vents) if they dont they will need to be replace or cleaned out.

2. Check power supply unit, and battery.
Sometime power supply unit is defective, getting too hot and power output is not stable and shuts down the laptop. ( change power supply unit) check if battery hold charge. if not change battery

3. Check connections for looseness and contact

If all seems normal, and none of the mentionned point seem to be defective, the cause is deeper and would need to be looked at by a technician.

My computer shuts off randomly by itself sometimes

Shut-downs can be caused for "all manner of reasons" (including overheating).
The cause of over heating can be due to
1) fault in power supply.change the power supply.
2) Any of the internal wire connections are got loose.so turn of your computer.then unplug it from main power outlet.then remove all the exaternal wires connected to the computer.then if its laptop open the back of the laptop and check out internally if any wire of hard disk, power supply is got loose.if its proper then also remove the wire and reconnect it.but if its normal cpu and not laptop then open the cpu by removing screws and diconnect all wires and reconnect it again.then connect all the external wires as it were before and check out.
3) if its laptop then it can also be the battery issue.if the battery is not charged then also this can happen.in some cases battery is fauty so it shows its charged but actually not charged.so replace the battery and check out.
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

My acer 4520 laptop shuts off while using it. why? cant seem to complete any task without powering it back on.

Hi,

This may sound stupid, but it could be as simple as your battery being low. If the battery is charged and it is still shutting off on you, the battery may need to be replaced.

One way to verify this would be to remove the battery, and plug the computer into the AC Adapter and see if it runs properly.

If it works fine, then you know that there's a problem with the battery. If not, then it may be something more serious like a motherboard issue. If it gets to that point, I suggest you take it somewhere that it can be physically looked at.

Hope this helped :)

I have a compaq presario 700 laptop that is no longer charging.

The notebook battery may have a defect if it will not power on the notebook and if it will not hold a charge. The battery indicator light on the notebook either does not light or always blinks orange. The notebook operates correctly when connected to the AC adapter.
A battery that will not charge may be the result of an AC adapter failure, a system board failure, or a battery failure. Perform the steps below to diagnose the failure.
Troubleshoot the power supply
To verify that the AC power supply is functioning properly, follow the steps below.

1.
Plug the AC adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet, and plug connector into the computer. Do not plug into a power strip, surge protector or secondary power source.
2.
Verify the following operation and take the appropriate action:
*
That all power cord connections are secure.
If the AC adapter connection to the notebook is loose, the connector may be damaged and require repair. Contact HP service and support for further assistance.
*
That the power button or power LED is lit when the computer is on.
*
That an LED on the AC power supply adapter is lit when plugged into an AC wall outlet (not available on all AC power supply adapters).
*
That the AC power supply adapter is the correct type.
Different notebook models require different AC power supply adapters. You will need to know the Product Number of your notebook to determine the Part Number of the replacement part. Click Start > HP Help & Support to view the product name, product number, and serial number that you'll need to have to speak with HP Customer Service.
View the See Also section for information about locating HP Help & Support in your operating system.

Troubleshoot the System Board
If you've verified that the AC power functions properly, troubleshoot the PC's system board by following the steps below.

1.
Remove the battery, and keep the notebook connected to AC power.
2.
Press and release the Power button to start the computer.
*
If the notebook PC powers on , then the AC adapter and system board are functioning properly. Go to Troubleshoot the battery .
*
If the Power LED is off , then the AC power adapter needs to be replaced. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance.
*
If the power LED is on , but the notebook PC does not power on, then the notebook PC needs to be repaired. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance.
3.
Shut down Windows by selecting Shut Down from the Start Menu.

Troubleshoot the battery
If you have verified the AC power supply and system board are functioning correctly, troubleshoot the battery by following the steps below.

1.
Insert the battery into the battery compartment on the bottom of the notebook PC.
2.
Connect the AC power supply and allow the battery to charge for 15 to 30 minutes.
NOTE: The Battery Charging light should be on while the battery is charging. If it is not on, check the AC power adapter connection to the notebook PC.
3.
Unplug the AC power adapter cord from the notebook PC.
4.
Press and release the Power button to start the computer using only the battery as the power source.
*
If the PC does not power on, then the battery needs to be replaced. Contact HP service and support for further assistance.
*
If the notebook PC does power on, the battery is functioning properly.
NOTE: If you have purchased a second battery for your notebook PC or you have access to an identical battery, you can also check the battery by inserting the second battery into the PC and performing the Troubleshoot the battery steps again.

HP Pavilion dv2020us laptop battery won't charge

How is your power supply? does it seem like you have to wiggle your cord that connects to computer to make it recieve power?...Many laptops power supply become loose over time form moving the cord around..when it does, the battery has a hard time getting electric power to recharge. Also, you my have other problems with your lithium internal battery that powers your cmos.

Check to see if your power supply is loose and go from there. the power supply is the little hole where you connect the cord to the laptop.

let me know what the status is

It seems that my laptop want go to ac (adapter) and shuts down

Most likely your problem is caused by a loose connection on the main board of the laptop. Even though it will plug in to the connection, the connection on the mainboard is either cracked or broken. Laptops are VERY hard to work on and you need to find a authorized repair shop for that brand computer in your local area to properly fix this problem.

Good luck!

Blinking AC light with/without battery, computer shuts down

I want to try a very simple thing, cause it happened to me, while I am working on my computer , it shut down unexpectedly... cause the processor is working with its full performance and no enough cooling around the laptop. so while I move to other place and also I raise the laptop a little bit from the back to let the fans (bottom of the laptop) works perfectly .
try to open it again and do so.... may be it is a so simple thing that was far from your mind like I was before... good luck
