Question about Mitsubishi VS-45607 45" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

TV keeps shutting off

My Mitsubishi VS-45607 manufactured Oct 2000 keeps shutting off while I'm watching TV. When I try to turn it back on it won't go back on. I have to wait about an hour and then it will go back on. Could you please tell me what is wrong and how to fix it?

Thank you so very much for your help. I'm very impressed and I appreciate your help. Do you have any idea how much this will cost me?

  • JeanJ40 Apr 06, 2008

Thank you very much again. I am going to look behind the TV and see if there is any milky residule and see if I can tell by looking at it what the problem is. I did visit your web site and I think I may buy the service manual. When I need help in trying to do this myself, will I be able to request your help? I sorta feel a bond here..... :)

  • JeanJ40 Apr 06, 2008

ok. I have to leave for a while so I'll get back with you sometime tonight. I will go back to your website and order the manual I need. I will want your help. I'm not sure if I can do this, I'm a little scared of the voltage. But, I will try. Thanks again.

Push the menu and inputs buttons on the set in both together and hold for 8 seconds this should make the led flash a two digit code. Let me know what happens after doing this test.

24 means your set has shut down due to vertical deflection failure. This model has had some issues with bad solder. as well as the CRT coolant dripping on the area of the vertical output IC detroying the solder and corroding the IC. Check for signs of a milky residule in the area of the vertical IC which will indicate a leaky CRT seal. If residule is found,a new CRT seal and coolant change will be needed then, Cean that area and resolder the components in that area especially the vertical IC. If no residule is found try resoldering the Vertical IC, and the Vertical yoke plugs and see if this helps if not your vertical output IC may be faulty and need replacing.

If its just a solder issue you can do this yourself with no cost. The IC if that needs replacing is under 20.00 for the part. and even the seal is relatively inexpensive around 10.00 for the seal and another 20.00 for new coolant if the crt has leaked. However if you have the repair done at a repair shop they will inform you that you need a new CRT and new board and will probably put the charge at about 700 to 800 dollars. Sad but true. But if you are handy I will post a link where you can actually get the service manual at a reduced cost emailed to you and they will provide free tech support to actually walk you through the repair step by step. The site belongs to me and two other techs that have been doing repairs for 25 years and we decided to start this service a few years ago as a way to genuinely help people do these type of repairs themselves. Most repairs can be handeld by the consumer as long as they have the service information at hand and an experienced tech that will point out the cautions and the proper way to perform the repairs. Here is the link if you want to save your set without it costing you an astronomical fee.

I will walk you through it, and I will point out anything that could be dangerous. Which are capacitors but when they are discharged properly which is easy with instruction there is really little to worry about. I have had many people tell me that its a great feeling when they have never touched a set before and then actually repaired the set themselves.

Check the vertical output IC solder. try resoldering that and the yoke plug thats the first thing with this chassis. They are both located on the main bd.

TV will not turn on

you either have leaky capacitors near the voltage regulators, cooling fluid leaking on the boards, and/or bad solder connections on the yoke plugs. this model is known for all 3 problems, but you probably need a qualified tv repairman to fix this right.

OK this problem is caused by a failing electrolytic capacitor back in the power supply. It's job is to filter AC interfence from that voltage source. Locating the correct capacitor is something not for a do-it-yourselfer. A respectable tv shop experienced with Mitsubishi tv's can usually repair this problem in your home. Average repair cost would be between $200 and $300.
