You may have a laptop with a built in mic or headphones with built in mic and webcam with built in mic
You need to set your webcam mic as default
Vista
TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

What connection do I use to connect a sony blue ray disc to on a Yamaha htr 6030 reciever to play music cd's

You said "...on reciever cd out in the audio box..." but it should the reciever IN that you connect to. Also is the BlueRay player capable of playing CD's ? When you press play on the sony remote, do the seconds start counting on the screen ? (ie: is it playing, but no sound is coming out?)

Set up for panasonic tc-50ps24 tv with hd cable box to home theater and dvd recorder

Man the best i can tell you to do is to keep everything strait starting with your video and then your audio. If your running Hi def you might can possibley run S-Video being that your DVD recorder may only have the input and out for that. If so you would take your video being S Video run it into the Home Theater Reciever and then go monitor out of the reciever into the DVD recorder. Keep in mind you must run S Video into your Home theater then to your DVD. More then one cord may likey go into your Home theater but only one should come out to go to the DVD player and then to the the TV but thats just for your Video. Now for your sound you have a few options. You can run anlalog to the Reciever or run from the Digital side either Coax or Digital Optical and again this is for your sound and is marked on the reciever. Your better sound will be Digital but you can still run analog if you want to do so. It may be easier for you to understand that anlalog is unsually in mono and not stero which means your sound will not have the defination you may want but never the less you will still have sound.

My left rear speaker has no sound. All others work. I have tested the speaker on a different reciever and it works fine. My reciever is a integra DTR 5.5

Swap your left and right rear speaker over. If you still get no sound from the right speaker connected to the left speaker connection on the receiver, then you have a fault on the receiver output. Check your manual first to see if any setting switch off the rear speaker before taking the unit for repair or replace

Denon AVR-1706 Left Front and Rear speakers stopped working. Any suggestions?

go into the settings menu and do a sound test using the recievers pink noise tester to test each speaker connected, if while doing this test you still get no sound from those two speakers check connections, make sure speakers are not blown.
if speakers and connections are good then the reciever needs repair

XBox 360 to Reciever to TV via HDMI no sound

I recently got the same receiver and had the same problem. Here's what I was told - and it worked for me:

Even though HDMI cables carry audio and video, for whatever reason this reciever won't accept audio through hdmi. Apparently only much more expensive recievers carry audio through hdmi. What you have to do is run optical audio cables from your xbox, cable box, dvd player or other video device to the optical inputs on the back of the reciver. Then you customize the scene buttons to match your video and audio inputs.

You can get these optical cables pretty cheap on line or even at target. Don't get ripped off by Best Buy for these cables. I love best buy, but they rip off on cables!

This receiver is great - once I got it all figured out and running right I've loved it! Hope everything works out for you!

No sound when the tv is on and the mute is turned off

I still am unclear as to your hook up but lets try this, if you have your DVD/VCR plugged into the TV audio and video and a audio cord from the tv monitor out to an input on the reciever, this way you should hear the sound at the tv and reciever.
However if you have your DVD/VCR plugged into the reciever first audio and video connections made at the reciever you should just have a video cord fromthe monitor out of the reciever to the tv and your audio will come from the reciever

I have a new Denon 688 7.1 CH reciever. I did a sound test on all speakers and they all worked. I hooked up Satelite rec HDMI and PS3 HDMI to reciever and then an HDMI from reciever to TV. I have Picture...

The Denon 688 does not process sound via HDMI, you have to run a seperate cable to get sound. Choices are analog audio jacks (red and white) or either a toslink (optical) cable or an rca digital audio cable.

Cheers!

If your tv is putting out mono you will only get the center and sub speakers. This can be because the tv is only mono, or the output is set to mono in a menu of the tv. If you have cable or sat run the digital audio out to you receiver; it usually sound better that way anyhow. Set your receiver to Dolby mode for best sound.

Installed surround sound, no picture on tv

I could not get my TV to recognize an S-video signal from my reciever either. I ended up just bypassing the reciever and running the video straight from the cable box to the TV. It might be a better option anyways as some quality is lost if you run it through the reciever.
