I think you should take all unused papers out, close tray and predd print button. If there is paper in the system, it may come out. A red light may also flash asking you to load papers. Now lod the papers and the red light will go off. Put a printed paper and try copying. If it copies, you are ok. Now print from your cpmputer command. If it prints you are ok. If it does not and you get paper jam warning, there may be a small piece of paper stuck in the system. You have to open each feeder and see if you find anything. Good luck.
A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by
resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer
from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and
re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns
on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again
once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on
the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).
If that doesn't help, try the steps below:
Disconnect the USB cable
connecting the printer from your computer.
On your computer, go to Control
Panel > Printers and Faxes.
Delete the Lexmark print
Re-brick your printer by
pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged
into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
When the printer turns on,
reconnect it to the computer.
Wait until your computer fully
recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers
and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print
a document to verify that the problem is fixed.
Make sure that your printer driver is installed. Try to reset your printer. Check if the cables are properly connected. Open Printers and Faxes from your start menu. If you can't see any printer icon. Click Add a Printer on the left panel. Then follow the instructions on the window that is displayed.
Just about every problem with every printer can be solved for a good while with these steps. That's because with years of experience, it's how I solve them, or know that it's tru;y a hardware problem.
ALMOST ALL PRINTER PROBLEMS ARE THE RESULT OF UPDATES OR A CHANGE OF OPERATING SYSTEMS. PEOPLE ALSO BELIEVE THAT THEY CAN JUST PLUG A PRINTER IN AND THE OPERATING SYSTEM WILL THEN SUPPLY ALL SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS NEEDED TO LET IT DO ALL IT'S FUNCTIONS
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
1. Uninstall the printer from the Control Panel NOWHERE ESLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2, After re-starting the cpmputer (whether told to or not) holde down the Windows Logo key at bottom left and press the R key. A command line window opens. Type this
then hit enter
you temp file window magically appears. Delete EVERY FILE windows will let you and leave the rest
3. Go to the Support Site for your printer manufacturer and find your printer. LEARN
4. Download the largest and most extensive driver/software file for your printer using SAVE in the download window and selecting DESKTOP. WOW !!!!!!!!! You can find your download.
5. Double click that file and install your printer. I'M GOING TO ASSUME YOU HAVE DISCONNECTED YOUR PRINTER BEFORE YOU START THE INSTALL AND ONLY CONNECT IT WHEN YOU'RE TOLD TO DO SO.
6. Happily use your printer and all it's functions. NEVER USE A FUNCTION YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH BEFORE USING THE HELP MENU.
If you look carefully at the printer you'll note that there is no button for "Print" and the reason for this is that all the other functions are for using the printer as if it wasn't connected, nor needed a computer.
All your printing functions that DO use a computer require you to interact with the printer via the computer.
In short, to use the printer from the computer you'll need to make sure you've installed the correct drivers (see your installation CD or the Canon website) and then plug the printer in using a USB cable connection to your computer. If the computer recognises the printer you'll then be able to print.
In a nutshell if your printer is connected and drivers installed properly it doesn't matter what your printer has selected on the printers own control panel, you just print :)

Is the printer connected via USB or a printer cable to the LPT1 port? Make sure the Port setting in the properties of the printer are set to the correct port. If the printer is plugged into the USB port but the properties say it is on the LPT1 port. the cpmputer will think it is sending something to the printer but the printer doesnt know it.
