Question about Singer 3820 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Open Question

Singer sewing machine model 3820

I have a great little machine here most of the time! I have trouble finding correct bobbins for it however. Some float around in the case, jam up etc. Am I using the wrong size? None of the packages seem to have my number on them. Can you help with make and number ...probably from WalMart?
Thanks! Lynne

I have the same problem. The only place I could find the right bobbins was on the Singer website itself. They are a lot more expensive there though--10 bobbins for $5 and then add $5 shipping!

SOURCE: Bobbin won't wind

I have checked the gears underneath and see no missing teeth for the bobbin part. The bobbin "seat" does raise, but does not engage. Thanks

SOURCE: bobbin filling on Singer 626

The Singer 626 has a self-winding bobbin. You place the empty bobbin in the bobbin thingie (sorry for being so untechnical). On the left of the bobbin you will see a "lever" with a circular top on it (I think it is red-ish) Again, sorry for being so untechnical. Press the "lever" down. Thread your machine, thread the needle, wrap the excess thread from the needle around the knob that tightens the needle and holds it in place and press your foot down on the foot pedal. The bobbin will automatically wind as you hold the foot pedal down. Do not wind the thread onto the bobbin past the outer white line.

Did you try to take out the bobbin and remove the little metal cover plate? Sometimes thread or fuzz gets under the bobbin mechanism, and that will knock it off just enough so it won't pick up the thread.

The bobbin thread will not feed up to the sewing deck

Get a q-tip and clean out all of the lint from the bobbin area. Then make sure the bobbin case is in properly. Make sure you're using the correct bobbin size. Then thread the bobbin again & see if it's working properly

Does the singer model 3820 take a special bobbin? I cannot get it to feed the thread up to the needle.

It takes a singer or universal bobbin with a flat top - not one of the plastic ones that has a curve to the top.

Singer 3820 Bobbin Issues? I can't sew!

Unthread the machine completely, remove the bobbin.

Make sure that the bobbin case is securely in its place.

Turn the handwheel and ensure that the bobbin case is not jamming.

Turn the handwheel until the take-up lever is in the highest position.

Raise the presser foot and rethread the machine.

Chaeck the upper tension setting and set it around 5.

ALways make sure that you start sewing, stop sewing and thread the machine with the TAKE-UP LEVER IN THE HIGHEST POSITION.

Good luck!

The bottom part of mystitch looks like a bird nest

HI Leaann! I have solution that may help!
I inherited an old Singer 457 (from 1964!) from my Grandmother. I used it a few times with success but then I too started to get birdsnests on the bottom of my work or knots in the area the houses the bobbin.

After much fiddling, using different bobbins and spools of thread, tension and what-not, I discovered that the it was one particular plastic BOBBIN giving me trouble! Although it appeared the same size and width, there is something about this bobbin that will mess up the machine (and within 16 stitches).

I just tossed the thing and have been trouble free ever since!

Try changing out your bobbin, the problem may resolve itself.

Singer 3820 How I replace the bobbin case, it's loose and I can't sew!

remove the 2 screws in the needle plate. Lift off the plate.Take out the bobbin case and examine it for rough spots or nicks. If there are any it will be necessary to buff them with an emery stick or fine sandpaper. Once the rough spot has has been smoothed, buff it with some very fine steel wool. There must be no rough spots on this bobbin case.Clean all the lint from inside the hook area. Do not pull the wick from the center of the hook. Place the bobbin case in the hook area so that it sits flush and does not bind when the handwheel is turned.Reinstall the needle plate, thread the machine, insert the bobbin and turn the wheel to pick up the bobbin thread and see that it doesn't bind.Test sew
