Configure wireless router

I had did a system restore on a computer with XP. I connected the modem and got that set up and configured with the help of SBC GLobal, then I called Neatgear and MJ could not assist without a fee and said this was the free route to take to get directions. The people that own the router have their modem and router on one side of the room. The modem is not connected to the computer now it is back where it was..I just need to get the router working again. I am not their now so I am not sure the model but I can provide serial number, IP address and their account email and pw if needed..

We can probably help you, but we will need to know the brand and model number of the router. I assume, since you called Netgear, that is the brand, and the model number should be on a sticker on the bottom of the device. Something like "WGR614v2", usually.

You need to connect your D-Link to a DSL or Cable modem. The ISP usually provides this modem and the configuration settings for the modem so you can connect to the Internet. To test your Internet connection connect a LAN cable from your computer to the modem and then open a browser. If you can coinnect to the Internet then you can then connect the D-Link to the modem and configure the D-Link for wireless settings so you can connect your computer/laptop to the Internet using a wireless connection.

Connect a LAN cable from the D-Link to your laptop/computer'sLAN port, open the browser on your laptop/computer and enter the D-Link'sconfiguration URL..
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = blank (just press Enter) You can now change the default password.
You can now configure the wireless settings. Now configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop withthe router's wireless settings.

Wireless connections have a lot in common so here is a link that will give you the general configurations for a wireless Router to PC. Keep in mind that you will need to configure both the computer and the router in two separate steps. That is why it is best to use the setup disk that normally comes with a new piece of equipment and the cables.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wireless.mspx

Also keep in mind that the equipment should be matched or designed to work with the other equipment. You will have some kind of a modem either a cable modem or internal modem or external modem that the router will have to connect to.

It is best to allow your own Internet Service Provider to set up the connections. They may not be able to support the configuration if you do not purchase it from them and then you will need to do-it-yourself.

Here are the links for configuring the computer with the different operating systems

Changed modem need to reconnect wireless router

Hi,

Changing routers can be a hassle, especially if all wireless connections are in-sync with the old one. The basic steps below in setting-up a wireless connection applies to all brands of routers. Most softwares provided by manufacturers, both computers and routers, cause problems with Windows due to incompatibility issues. We will use the Wireless Zero Configuration or the Windows Wireless Manager that comes with all versions of Windows to put ease in setting up your Linksys WRT160N.

Click the link below for proper cable connections in setting up your wireless network. It also provides somewhat a checklist on what you need for wireless connectivity.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wireless.mspx

Then, configure your wireless connection. The following links provides the step by step instructions for each version of Windows:

Windows XP. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/wlan_client_configure.mspx?mfr=true

Modem router light blinking (no wireless connection) F5D8631-4

Try restoring the Belkin back to the factory default by powering up the Belkin and pressing the RESET button on the back of the Belkin for 7 secs. Then connect a LAN cable from the computer to the Belkin, open IE browser and type the configuration IP address and configure the wireless settings ie. SSID, encryption etc. The computer wireless cards will need to be configured with the Belkin wireless settings to allow them to communicate with the Belkin.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop and my internet (Time Warner) works when connected directly into the laptop, but will not when the cable is connected to the D-Link to the WBR-2310 router. I think it's...

reboot your modem(power it off for about 10-15 secs), reset your router. make sure your laptop is disconnected from the modem when doing this. Modem needs to catch router's ip address. Start your laptop and search wireless networks. look for your d-link router and connect. Now this is assuming you didn't firewall your router, which in tun you will need to enter your key to connect.

I cannot get my router to connect with my modum

If im working with network devices, i recommend that it will be easy for you if you will use the Windows Xp Operating system

In order to get your router to connect with your modem. first you need to make sure that everything is connected properly.
Make sure that the right connector is inserted into your router..
7ca8a38.gif

you need to Check if your connections are correct.

If you have set all the medium to connect. You will need to configure the router.
If you have your manual .You need to know how to configure it.
Ip address is important since you need to put the right gateway and the dns address of your internet configuration.

if you want to know the right gateway and the dns address of your internet configuration, you must first connect the ethernet from your modem and into your computer.

Then in the command console. If you are using windows xp. just type ipconfig /all

Just copy the default gateway, the dns server addresses and the ip address. Later, you will be using these addresses to configure your router.

Pm me if you need other information. I hope this works.. Thank You :)
