The first step is to remove battery, then remove the rom cover screw and the cover, and the other 8 screws on the bottom. Flip it over and there are two screws on the other side that are normally hidden by the battery. Remove these two screws. Now carefully remove the two ribbon cables from their connectors. The connectors unlock by sliding the connector lock to loosen the ribbon cable. If you have never seen these type of connectors, then get help. You don't want to break the connector or the cable here or you will be screwed. Now open the NEC part way to about 45 degrees. Stand the thing on edge, and between the darker gray plastic and the silver plastic on the bottom half, that is the part that contains the keyboard, and the bottom case half, carefully spread the seam apart. The parts snap interlock with each other. Slowly separate by starting in one spot and working around the edge from where you decide to start, pry it apart a little further....eventually you will separate the two part entirely. Once you do that, you will be able to view the motherboard. If you need to, there are a few screws that secure the motherboard to the bottom half, and a cable that secures the lcd to the motherboard. On the 780 there will also be a cable for the thumbwheel. You at this point, you should be able to see the battery towards the back edge of the Nec pretty easily.

Error message "Backup Battery Very Low"


The MobilePro 900 back up battery is low and should be replaced. The battery is a CR2032 coin-cell battery, which is very common and can be purchased at most department and drug stores. Refer to section 1-7 of the "MobilePro 900 Handheld PC's User's Guide" for detailed replacement instructions.

"Backup Battery Very Low"


NEC has identified an issue where the system can erroneously generate the "Backup Battery Very Low" message. There are two possible solutions that will eliminate this erroneous low battery warning message (the first method is the preferred solution, the second method can be used if the update file is not available). Solution I. Install a new version of the driver that controls the battery monitoring circuit. 1. Download the Low battery warning fix to your desktop. 2. Using ActiveSync or a compact Flash Card, copy FixBatt_HPC2K.EXE to the MobilePro internal disk. 3. On the MobilePro, double click the FixBatt_HPC2K icon. 4. When the message "Low Backup Battery Issue" is displayed, tap the "Patch it" button 5. When prompted turn unit over and momentarily depress the Reset button using the stylus. Solution II. Change the default power management configuration. Configure your MobilePro 900 to suspend when the LCD lid is closed on battery power and AC power. To ensure that the device suspends whenever the lid is closed, please make the following changes and perform a soft reset: 1. Go to Control Panel. 2. Open MobilePro Settings. 3. Go to the LCD Suspend/Resume tab. 4. Place a check next to "Enable suspend while on External Power." 5. Click the "Advanced" button and place a check next to "Enable suspend while on External power. 6. Click OK to close the Advanced Setting window and click OK to close the MobilePro Settings. 7. Turn unit over and momentarily depress the Reset button using the stylus. NOTE: Both the software update and power management settings are cleared on a hard reset and must be re-applied.

My system will not power up after I allowed the batteries to fully discharge. What should I do?


On MobilePro systems, which both batteries have fully discharged, the user must perform a hard reset after charging the batteries for approximately 10 hours to ensure proper operation. If the systems fails to power on the user must perform a "hard" reset to initialize the power management circuitry.

"Fatal Application Error"


This problem may occur if the user allows the batteries to discharge to a state where the MobilePro must shut itself down. This state may cause the system storage memory to become unstable requiring a "hard" reset after the system has been fully charged again. Failure to perform the hard reset may result in data loss at a later time. The user manual states that if you receive a message indicating that the batteries are low, immediately connect the AC adapter to the device. The solution is to perform a "hard" reset after fully charging the internal batteries, and then install the service packs, software updates and user software.
