What sequence do I go through to reset software with a boot disk on a Dell Optiplex

hello ggpgh1

If you are using the actual windows disk, have it in the CD/DVD drive

1-turn the computer on
2- press F12 as it starts
3- from the boot option that comes up choose internal Cd Rom drive
4- if the hard disk has or has had windows on it you get a message "press any key to boot from CD"
5- press any key, the computer starts to boot from the disk. from then on follow the prompts.

good luck

please leave comment if this has helped.

Accessing windows XP if you have forgotten your password

Have you forgotten or lost your windows XP user password. It happens to many people. But it is one the easy issues to solve.<br /><br />Turn the computer on and press F8 as it boots. you should be getting the windows boot menu option. (on some motherboards F8 brings up the hardware boot select. If that happens choose the hard disk and press F8 as it starts)<br /><br />from the windows satat up option list choose "safe mode"<br />Windows start and comes up with the list of users. It also will have the "Administrator" listed at the top.<br />Click on "administor" and start the windows<br />Once windows has loaded go to Start ---&gt; Control panel ----&gt; User Accounts<br />all users will be listed<br />click on the your name or any other user and from the page the comes up choose "remove password"<br />Once done close all windows and restart the computer<br />there would be no password needed to log in<br />share this around. it is good to know<br />

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).

These are the steps that you need to take, and the instructions on how to do it:
1. Reboot into Safemode
2. Run a virus and spyware scanner
3. Defrag
4. Scandisk
5. Registry error repairing
6.Reboot into regular mode windows

Here is how to do it:
Reboot yor machine while holding the F8 key right as it boots back up. A menu will apear. Choose -->"start windows in safe mode with networking".
Windows will start in safe mode. Run an AVG virus scan, then run Defrag by exploring your computer, right click on C: drive, click PROPERTIES, then the TOOLS tab, click the "check now" button, and only checkmark the top box 'fix file system errors', then click ok, the computer will then tell you it will scan upon next reboot., Now click the DEFRAG NOW button. the choose defrag. After Defrag runs for about an hour and it is finished, restart the system. If is still won't run normally, go back into Safemode buy pressing F8 on reboot, then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot again. If it still won't run right, you may want to reinstall Windows and see if that works. If reinstalling windows doesn't fix it, it is definitely a hardware problem.
PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND KEEP A COPY NEAR YOUR SYSTEM FOR FUTURE PROBLEMS. THIS SERIES OF STEPS CAN FIX MANY PROBLEMS
Good luck.
James.

Pc not starting up

Can you at least boot up pass the BIOS POST?

If you can try tapping F8 repeatedly, sometimes it will give you choices of boot devices, so just choose your primary hard drive press enter and tap F8 again until you see the Advance Boot Menu, choose safe mode and see if you can successfully boot into it.

Once in safe mode click on Start>Run then type in restore. Anew window will pop up. double click on on rstrui icon.

This will now launch the System Restore window click on the radio button "Restore my Computer to an earlier time" and press enter. A calendar will show you the available dates that you can restore from. Choose the day you know that your computer was stable.
If your computer still wont boot up do the same procedure and choose another date.

"NEVER GO BACK TO MORE THAN 30 DAYS UNLESS YOU ARE OUT OF OPTIONS"

Hope this solves your problems don't worry this is just the 1st solution there are many more.

Possible 2nd solution to removing programs upon startup

This is great! I have been using winpatrol for years. It's like msconfig on steroids. Download it (it's free) from http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html After it installs, when you click on the little black Scottish Terrier ( I guess that's what it's supposed to be) in your taskbar, up pops a screen. Startup Programs is the first tab. Everything you see there loads upon startup. If you don't want it to, right click the program(s), choose your preference (such as Disable- doesn't remove it, just won't let it start up) and you're good to go.
If you like this solution, please help me out by rating it!

Try to format my hard drive it will not format. or at least i cannot find anything that has.. all it will do is copy over the old windows but i know there is a better way to clear everything off!

go into the control panel. click administrative tools. open computer management. click the tab called disk management. make sure the drive you want to format isnt the system drive. (it wont let you format while running) and format the drive from there. you can also choose the drive letter you want to format to. very useful if you are a neat person. (C: MAIN, D: documents, M: music, Z: dvd writer, V: virtual memory.........)

Lap top turns on, however Windows will not start. It keeps going the the "We apologize for the inconvenience,..." choose how you want to restart.

Hi Lisa,
Somehow you have activated the startup sequence request in the msconfig utility. Start up your laptop, press F8 till you come to the boot sequence options menu, select Safe Mode, hit ENTER wait, then when in safe mode, a warning wndow appears just informing you that you have started in Safe Mode ... bla bla bla... Click OK. Then press start button, go to Run.. and in the dialogue box type msconfig and hit ENTER. In the msconfig utility window check on the dot next to Normal Startup - Loda all device drivers & services. Click apply & Ok then Restart your unit. I think this should solve your problem.
