Burner light does not go off on Amana AKT3040

I have an Amana AKT3040 and when I installed it one of the burner lights in the set of four in the middle of the unit always stays on. All four light will work when the burners are on but this one light never goes out even after the burners have cooled down. Also, when I turn on one of the knobs white smoke came out around the sides of the knob. It would go away when the knob was turned off.

I had the exact same two problems with my AKT3040. Both problems were on the dual burner.
1. Problem with the "hot" light always ON was solved by replacing the burner (problem caused by defective temperature sensor), unfortunatley it seems you can't get the sensor by itself these days so I had to change the whole burner.
2. smoke came out from the knob controlling the dual burner: problem solved by replacing by a new knob. You have to be carefull since the replacement knob is a little different than the original part so you have to connect everything properly as per the provided instruction sheet.

Sounds like a short in that particular burner circuit. Usually when the light stays on even after cool down the heat sensor is bad. This is inside the burner. If your getting white smoke the burner switch could also be shorted out.

No burners work

Do you have power? Check to make sure the power cord is plugged in. Check for a reset button where it's plugged in to the wall. (It may be tripped). Check your breaker box for a tripped switch.

We have a smooth electric cooktop and the burner that has the option of being large or small only lights up small. What part do we need to fix this?

first check the wiring to the burner itself you might have a burnt connection to the larger one or a bad receptacle if both are good then you would have to buy a new burner try allbrands appliance parts they seem to be cheaper

My amana model AKT3040 is making a loud "pow" when i turn it on with a white flash under the glass, then the breaker trips. It is 6 years old this month, not under warrenty, Should i try to get a repair...

Amana will confirm this - but I am fairly sure that the elements under the glass are replaceable. Most units by other manufacturers are repairable...but if yours is not, then careful shopping around will save a ton on parts cost.
Labor will vary by market...but it is typically better to have the replacement part when contacting a repair service.

Oh, yes, the snap is a broken burner element. the breaker trips because the resistance on a shorted element is insufficient - and the current draw becomes excessiver - popping the breaker.

Electric cooktop burner is always on hi when it's on

I just wanted the name of the part and possible sources. Not worth paying $14 for.
I found it else where.

Multiple burners turning on

You have wires that have melted and fused together giving you the result that you describe. If you are mechanically inclined you can make the repairs yourself, if not, hire a pro as you can get a serious shock. Get back and let me know how you make out.

Gas burner not getting enough gas

It sounds like a bad pressure regulator. Or it may be adjusted for LP gas. I need more information. Sometimes you can adjust it yourself, sometimes you need to buy a kit or new regulator.
