Emachine not responding

I'm trying to fix a broken computer that my dad gave me. When I first plugged it in and turned it on it worked normally so I couldn't work out why my dad said that it was not working. A few minutes late I noticed that the power light was no longer on, after that it will not switch on at all.

I have tried playing around with disconnecting different parts and I have tried leaving it overnight without the power or battery but I had no luck. Why would it suddenly work again the first time I try it and then magically break again?

Anyone got any ideas on what I can try?

Ok, I have played around with it and I have made progress....ish!

I now have power, the fan on the power supply is working and the main fan is working...ish. The main fan jutters and requires you to blow in it to get it started. Nothing else is responding.

The power button is flashing rappidly and there are no other LEDs on.

OK, I have to say fixya....ish here.

I have bought a new powerfully and a cook little doodad that checks if the power supply is working. I discovered that the old power supply was faulty and have replaced it. The fan now works properly not.... HOWEVER...

The main power light around the button is still flashing. The disk drives are not working and when I plug in a monitor I hear an odd ticking but nothing else happens.

Is this the motherboard? There are no beeps, same as before.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I have tried plugging in a usb light, the light seems to flash compared to it on my working computer.

This problem was the same before I got the new power supply.

My desktop pc will not go to factory restore setting

Most people who own an eMachine computer will find that they will need to reset the computer at some point. It is a fact that PCs are more prone to viruses and malware than Macintosh computers. Sometimes the only way to restore an eMachine is to simply reset it. Fortunately, it is not a difficult process to reset an eMachine computer.

Turn off the computer. If the computer is in a state that it can be properly shut down, follow the normal shutdown process. On the other hand, if the computer is not reacting to anything, simply pull the cord from the wall. Restart the computer. Plug the computer back into the wall and press the Power button. Wait for the eMachine to reach the screen that reads "Press F11 to start recovery." Once this screen appears, press the F11 key on the keyboard multiple times to make sure that it registers. If the recovery screen does not come up, you will need to turn the computer off and back on again and attempt to press the F11 button again when the prompt appears. Select the proper option. After the recovery screen appears, there will be a list of recovery options. Scroll to the option that says "Full System Restore (with Backup)." Choosing this option will copy all of the contents of the hard disk to the c:\\My Backup directory. This will ensure that important files that have been created on the computer will not be deleted. However, the applications on the computer will need to be reinstalled. Allow the system restore to run its course. Depending on the age and effectiveness of the eMachine computer, it is possible this process could take up to 45 minutes. When the system restore is complete, the computer will restart itself. Reinstall applications. Any of the files created on the computer should be saved. However, the applications that created them need to be reinstalled.

Hello my name is steven my dad gave me his hp pavilion a62n computer. I then plugged it in with my old computer wires and pressed the on button but after the lights came on and the fan started to spin...

I am assuming that it was working before he gave it to you.
Unplug the pc and open the case and touch the case to ground yourself before trying the next steps. Blow any dust out and away from all the fans, check that all the wires are plugged in tight, check the memory sticks and make sure they are pushed in. Try plugging it in with the cover open but do not touch anything inside with the power on and try it and make sure all the fans are turning. Let me know how this worked. Thanks for using FixYa

I have emachine ET 1641-02w check the power supply and its check out ok but computer wont turn on

I will assume that you have not messed with anything and it just stopped working. So try these steps:

1) Check the power plug, make sure it is plugged into the wall and also into the back of the computer.

2) Check to see that the switch is "On" on the back of the power supply if there is one.

3) Take the case off and look at the power button, try to press it without the case on, perhaps the power button is broken. If that doesnt work try and see if the little wires on the back of the power button are connect and bot pushed off.

4) Check the cables to the power supply, ensure they are connected to the motherboard and not disconnnected.

5) If all of the above do not work, take a power supply from another system and plug it in to *********** board, see if the computer boots normaly then. If that works you can assume the power supply is shot.

Let me know if there is anything else.

EMachine will not turn on.

Sounds like the power supply is faulty. Power supplies are very dangerous to try and repair, even for qualified technicians. I would also suggest not trying to plug it in or turn it on until the new power supply is in place. Faulty power supplies have been known to cause motherboards to permanently malfunction. Note: researching your issue, I came across several forum posts with complaints about emachines and their power supplies. The best way to solve this problem is to purchase a new power supply. If shopping online, www.tigerdirect.com and www.newegg.com are two places that specialize in PC hardware. A 400-watt power supply would probably more than do the trick for you. The cheapest one I found was $18.00. Make sure the power supply is compatible with your motherboard before you buy.

Problems with computer booting into monitor

Install the driver for the monitor on your emachine? If you have a driver already installed, try reinstalling it or check that you have the latest version.
If you do not have the cd-rom with the driver, go to the monitor manufacturer's website and download the driver.
This should solve the problem :-)
