You will have to open the unit and look inside it. Unplug it first. It should have 6-8 screws to take off. You will see 3 white plastic adjustment screws. There is a carriage they sit in. Make sure they are in this carriage. If you would like stay back a bit and plug it in and watch it run to see how it works. It is a direct contact system, so when the middle screw touches the copper limit of the limit screw it stops. Thanks BB

The HD900D does not use a mechanical limiter. It uses an electronic positioning sensor located at the gear box side of the motor. If you opened it up and watched it operation all you would see is a little circuit board with some wires running to it. If you read the posts on any number of boards, you'll learn pretty quickly that Chamberlain has some design/quality control issues with this setup. I installed a unit that was dead right of the box. Unfortunately, you can only discover the problem after you completely finish an installation. If you do it over a weekend, forget about calling their tech support line (800-528-9131) because they are closed Sat-Sun. My recommendation is to buy another brand that uses micro switches on the rail. I think Genie makes some products setup like this. Real bummer this problem, you can't just replace the circuit board, but have to replace the entire motor assembly (part number 41D794). Essentially, the little circuit board counts the rotations for the belt drive sprocket. The problem can start exhibiting itself with partly opened doors, slamming the trolley into the bolt stop on either end, or you simply won't be able to get the opener to program. The model has been around for awhile mostly sold at Home Depot. A real disappointment for an otherwise well known brand. Poor job overall, considering their antiquated approach to support, not better than anyone else, but you'd have to think Chamberlain is well aware of the problem and would have come up with a fix other than running their customers through support hell.

I'm so disappointed in the performance of this unit considering what I paid. My problem is with the closed-position control limit. It's freaking unreal; sometimes I can't even program the limits sometimes. And this thing requires significant (re)programming as it's constantly jamming the door into the ground, no matter what I do. I've completely disconnected the lighting, the battery backup, and only have the wires connected for it's essential operation. I've had this thing since November of 2006 and it's become progressively worse year after year. In the hot Texas summer it gets worse and right now, I have it unplugged and am manually operating my garage door. Didn't really want to go buy another opener but it looks like I'll have to. I dropped the extra cash on this unit because it was quiet. It has all these other features that I don't care about but I've never had a problem with any product that provided such options. I remember my dad telling me back in the day to not buy top of the line stuff because it's just more stuff that can break. Maybe this isn't the problem but if Chamberlain devoted more time to quality control instead of gimmicks (I don't really care what the temperature is on the inside of my garage and if I did, I'd but a thermometer.), maybe so many people wouldn't be having this problem. /rant

Chamberlain hd400 open force setting at max. Just installed. Will only open door with open force at max setting. Door appears to be balanced fine. No obstructions noticed.

If you release the opener from the door and operate the door by hand it should be obvious if there is a door problem. If it is in warranty you can call Chamberlains technical support line at 800-528-5880. Double check that model number before you call. They don't recognize it.

I have a Chamberlain Whisper Drive Security + model HD900D that is opening by itself awhile after the door has fully closed & I've gone into the house, sometimes its hours after the door fully closes....

If the door hits the floor too hard the safety will reverse it to the open position. This can be an intermittent situation. A bad wall control or the wiring to it will also cause this problem. To eliminate them you can remove the wire from terminal #1 on the rear of the motor unit. A staple in the wire can cut through the insulation.

MY GARAGE DOOR KEEPS OPENING AND CLOSING. AND ONE OF MY SENSORS IS ORANGE INSTEAD OF GREEN. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

As I have mentioned in other post, re-program travel and force limits. Make sure that travel limit (down) does not go too far (thus excessive force). Apparently this system has a force sensor that senses if there is something in the way of the door. This is different from the safety sensor "eyes". The problem in your setup is that you have programmed the door to travel down too much and he system looses its ability to use force sensor. Adjust travel limit (down) to a little less travel and you will be fine.

My door opener is new, Chamberlain, mod cg40cd, the drive will hit both limits. will not let me set the up and down limits, doesn't seem to matter whether I set the up and down to max either way??????

THE TRAVEL ADJUSTMENT IS ON THE SIDE.
YOU MAY BE ADJUSTING THE SENSITIVITY (TRAVEL LIMIT HAS NO MAX ADJ.)
BE SURE TO RESET THE SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT TO ABOUT 1/4

HOPE THIS HELPS
