Question about Gateway FPD1760 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor won't turn on.

I have a Gateway FPD1760 (Silver) 17" LCD Monitor, and I've for a couple of years, (possibly 2 to 4 years) and all of a sudden, it shut offs. when I tried turning it back it didn't work. I unplugged it and then plugged back, It started to make a weird hissing sound. I checked every wire and I thought it was the cord to plug into the wall I'm probably wrong. No light turns on and nothing shows up on the screen. I stopped using it for a few hours and still nothing, I unplugged and then replugged and no light comes up and it makes a hissing sound? Should I get it fixed? or is it the cord for the wall?

My Gateway computer and 17 LCD monitor is always on, except when I restart the computer. Well we turned the computer off for the first time in a long time to go to the movies and when we came back and turned the computer back on the monitor never came back on. The power button doesn't even light up anymore. Took it apart to see if anything shorted or fried, didn't see any problems. Put it back together and still not working. My power cord is the kind that goes straight from the monitor to the wall, no brick adapter.

Does the cord plug directly from the wall into the monitor, or is there a power "brick" adapter between?

If there's a "brick" listen to see if the hissing is coming from the monitor itself or the brick. If the hissing is coming from the brick you may just need a new power adapter.

If there's no brick or the hissing is coming from the monitor, the monitor probably needs repair. With the price of LCD monitors these days compared to the price of labor, you're probably better off getting a new LCD monitor. Just make sure you take your old one to a proper E-Waste facility so it doesn't pollute the environment.

I want to put my laptop and connect it with Gateway monitor. What type of plugs do I need?

Spec of the monitor http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Gateway-Gateway-Monitor-FPD1760
It will need the VGA cable (3-row/15-pin D-SUB), you need to look at your laptop monitor port to see what you have for the output.
Failed TV and Monitors: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

And you will need to set the laptop video signal to be at the native resolution of this monitor, which is 1280 x 1024 @60Hz.

This monitor is great. Just recently, after 3

It seems so.

1. Change the monitor cable and see if this still happens

2. Attach this monitor to another PC and see if this still happens

If it is still happening, then yes, it seems that it is failing.

Problem
1. turn on computer
2. monitor receives signal, it looks like its working
3. it goes through some steps and then the monitor says "no signal" and kind of stays in limbo with fans running, etc.

Solution
One possibility is that computer is looking for drivers for you video card. It could be hung up looking in the wrong places. Remove all peripheral hard drives and memory sticks. Try again.

Screen completely white

One gets to open it up and find out where the signal from the computer is lay aside. Hunt up the model number on the inside of the monitor (the ODM part numbers) for the service manuals if you can use them. Otherwise you can call Gateway or look for a shop (sometimes even buy repair insurance coverage with the thing in that nonfunctional state.)
