Wrt54g wireless router problems

I just bought this router and the wizard is having problems finding the router. Is there a firewall blocking it or what else could be the problem?

  1. Shut down your PC.
  2. Connect your PC directly to one of the router's LAN ports via an Ethernet cable.
  3. Unplug the power to the router.
  4. While holding down the reset button on the router, plug the power for the router back in and continue to hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release the Reset button. This should reset the router to factory defaults.
  5. Turn on your PC. If your network adapter is not set to Automatically obtain IP address, set it to do so (this is usually the default).
  6. Open your web browser and browse to http://192.168.1.1/ if that doesn't work, try http://192.168.0.1/

That should get you to the web setup page.

Recently my router is blocking any connection to secure server such as a http

http is neither secure, nor a server. it is an unsecure protocol (hypertext transfer protocol). perhaps you meant https? your router will have a setting to allow you to block certain protocols. find your router admin page (a 192 ip address - depends on the brand) and look for protocol settings (probably in Firewall settings).

Trying to run setup wizard on my WRT54G-TM,so i can block other people from borrowing my internet.I have one desk top hooked up and two laptops, works great ,but when i run the wizard disk it tells me...

To test your Internet connection, connect a LAN cable from your computer to the DSL or cable modem and if you can browser the Internet then your Internet connection is OK, then the problem is the LAN cnnection to the Linksys or the Linksys may not configured correctly.

Connect a LAN cable from the D-Link to your laptop/computer'sLAN port, open the browser on your laptop/computer and enter the D-Link'sconfiguration URL..
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = blank (just press Enter) You can now change the default password.
You can now configure the wireless settings. Now configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop withthe router's wireless settings.

Disable your firewall on that computer where you shared your printer.

After that check firewall settings to allow printing from the network.

Your router working ok.

I need to download the setup software for a Linksys WRT54G and cant find it online.

There's no need to download any software.

Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to one of the LAN ports on the router.

Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD and press ENTER.
Type IPCONFIG and press ENTER.
Look for a line of output like:
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 14.64.1.1

Start Internet Explorer.
Type http://14.64.1.1
to connect to the web-server "inside" the router.
Click to run the "network setup wizard"
Later, click to run the "wireless network wizard".

Disconnect the Ethernet cable, and have your computer "view available wireless networks" -- you should now be able to "connect" wirelessly to your router.

Connecting a brother hl2170 wirless printer to a linksys wrt54g

Take note all the wireless settings of the router first. Now go to the printer and Press Menu/Settings, look for wireless setup wizard. It should find the network, highlight it and connect. If it asks you for the network key, type your wireless network key. It only allows WPA-Personal(TKIP) and WEP. If you have WPA2 or AES, it will not connect

My laptop won't work wireless

Use windows network setup wizard to help in setting up your wireless. The wizard can search for your wireless. Some people believe you gan get away without using Linksys's software & I agree to a point. However Linksys believes to maintain a good connection you should install the software for the wireless router. You can download it from the link below. Check out the link "Learning Center". You might find it helpful. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859837401&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=3740137401B343
I suggest to all running a wireless connection to set up security with a password to keep freeloaders from tapping into your bandwith for free.
Luck!

Open a port for a certain program

hi mike,

this router has its own firewall, although i don't think its a good idea to turn off the firewall

google the port that limewire uses and then use portforwarding on the router.

you can start by turning off the firewall on the router to see if it works. if it does then perrhaps just allow limewire to passthrough your firewall at the router.

good luck

WAN requests

The feature you are referring to "Block Wan Requests" is either enabled or disabled In the pane to the right, where there are 4 subcategories to "Block Wan Requests", Block Anonymous, Filter Multicast, Filter NAT, and Filter IDENT. These 4 subcategories are your choices for blocking WAN requests. They can be either enabled, or disabled.
