Could be the Shift interlock solenoid or the shift interlock circuit ( or the fuse for it )
The shift interlock is on the same switch as the Brake Pedal Position switch, it is on the side of the brake pedal, usually has a yellow c-clip retainer on it.

Start by checking the fuse with a meter for power on both pins on the back of the fuse. The fuse is #16.

If the fuse has power on both sides, next check for power at the shift interlock circuit on the switch on the brake pedal.
The circuit is Fuse #16 to a Tan w/ Red stripe wire to the shift interlock switch to a pink w/ light green stripe wire. When the brake pedal is pushed down power should be on both sides of the switch.

If you have power to both sides, I would say the shift interlock solenoid is the issue ( located : steering wheel column ).
If this is a flow through console, the shift interlock circuit also feeds the floor shifter.

Have a 1988 Landcruser sometimes when I switch on the ignition relay clicks engine will turn but will not start on turning key on and off a few times once the relay doesn’t click engine will start what...

possible problem is a weak fuel pump. The fuel pump relay will engage for about five seconds each time the key is turned to the start position. If the fuel pump is weak then there is nor enough pressure to fire the injectors until the key is recycled several times. You should connect a fuel pressure tester to the fuel system to see if that is what is happening. Try turning the key on and off several times waiting 3 or 4 seconds between turns and then all the way to start.

What would cause a 2014 ford fusion from starting after it had been driven for 30 minutes of city driving, some highway, and had a stop at the train tracks to wait on a train going by?

Sputtering is usually a sign of having a fuel issue. You need to hook a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and confirm that you have at least 40# of pressure at the rail.

While parked, frontend was backed into really hard, sometimes will only fire when started, shut off and wait several seconds and it will start normal

Warm start issue i am assuming. On the fuel rail is a fuel pressure regulator. Pull the hose off gently and if you see gas, replace it.

I bought a 2004 Ford Taurus and having problems with it shifting. Sometimes it will not shift out of a low gear and revs high RMPs into overdrive or drive. Sometimes I have to pull over, stop, turn the car...

Have you checked the trans. fluid level and condition-should be a clear red, not burnt or brown looking.
Have a shop or transmission shop diagnose it. First they will check for trouble codes to see if there is an electrical problem. It kind of sounds like it. But if it is an internal mechanical problem-you know what that means: transmission rebuild or replacement.

Car will not start. Was fine when driven in yesterday. Battery well up. Suspect immobiliser may be the prob. How do I switch it on/off

Several different ways to do this , but I am not sure for jaguar. Anyway first if you have a fob lock the car, wait several minutes then open with the fob. second insert the key and lock the , wait , then try, third turn try car on , don't start, wait at least ten minutes turn it off then try to start, sometimes you have to do this three times. fourth call the dealer and ask for parts, these guys are fairly helpfull good luck

Sometime the engine will turn over fine but, not

Listen for 2 to 3 second prime on fuel pump when the key is turned to the on position. Make sure every thing is as quiet as possible when doing this. also it may take several tries to hear it so make sure you wait at least 10-15 seconds before each try . the fuel-pump should also run while cranking. Do this and re-post and we'll take ti from there!--thanks

2002 vw Cabrio\ transmission doesn't shift out of second.

Is it a auto tranny? Might be your fluid levels check those. Also could be your detent cable. If manual tranny and has a hydro clutch check those fluids. Just some stuff to check. I would hate to say change your transmission.

Transmission will not shift into drive or reverse when first started

if youre only talking about a few second delay, thats normal. start the vehicle, wait 5 seconds, step on the brake and you should hear the shift lock solenoid engage and allow you to shift.

2005 amanti shifts at odd times

It is not a problem. Amanti is equipped w/driver adaptive system = continually adjusts to varying driving habits, e. g gentle take-off vs. fast or city driving vs hi-way. This optimizes engine power while being good on gas. Feature is common among luxury cars, incl. Mercedes.
