-   My Toshiba P25-S5093 won't recognize my DVD player (even durring the bootup process where the computer POSTS. Tried different drives like UJ-811B, UJ820B. It worked on a different Toshiba Satellite P25, but not mine. Get the same things (grinding, starting and spinning), without it recognizing the disk. -   tatester11

-   my problem very similar to those reported. cd cranks up runs fine , won't read media, any format.. Have decided the cdrw/dvd combo is toast. Unit in this notebook is a LG DRN8020B. How do I replace it? I may be ignorant but I am not stupid I know when to ask for help. Thanks -   deuce2k

-   my ashton 2068 has a qsi cdrw/dvd sbw 242ss and it's gone weird. It will write to cd but won't read anything suspect problem in windows but not sure. Anybody else go thru this?-   flyfishphil

My DVD drive works intermittently, and when it fails, the system just plain doesn't see the media in the drive.

I ran the TOSHIBA diagnostic test on this drive and it FAILED.
