My DVD drive works intermittently, and when it fails, the system just plain doesn't see the media in the drive.

I ran the TOSHIBA diagnostic test on this drive and it FAILED.

I have a an inop cd/dvd combo drive that grinds and does not work. It is a Matshita UJ-811B. I understand there have been historical problems with this model. What will fit as an alternative in my Satellite P-15 S479 PC Notebook?

  • chicagomark1 Dec 25, 2008

It grinds as if it's loading up the cd and then stops. When loaded, the drive does not show up in My Computer.

My Toshiba P25-S5093 won't recognize my DVD player (even durring the bootup process where the computer POSTS. Tried different drives like UJ-811B, UJ820B. It worked on a different Toshiba Satellite P25, but not mine. Get the same things (grinding, starting and spinning), without it recognizing the disk.

Have you thought about getting a new one if you're sure that one is toast.

It might be that the blank DVD disc you're using is not empty anymore or is faulty. Try it with a new blank DVD to see if it shows the same problem.

Hi,

Follow the steps given below

Connect the External CDRW to the PC and you should be able to find the green light glowing and CDRW should make some noise like spinning.

Press the Eject button the CDRW and It should open. Put in the Software disk that you have received from your PC manufacturer and it should display the contents on the PC Screen

If not, Click on START button - Click on My Computer - You should find the CDRW displayed in Drives Location.

Double click on it and it should display the CD Contents.

This indicated the CDRW is working.

How do i reinstall my cdrw/dvd as i got a code 39?

Hi There.

I can understand the issue. When you say got an error code 39 then i'd say its an issue with the registry files. Try deleting the upper filters and lower filters. It should work for you. If any clarification revert

best thing to do is buy a wireless usb mouse and hook it up otherwise will be a 100 fix at least. Try opening the touch pad screen on the tool bar and adjust it to work again.

My Matshita UJDA 750 DVD/CDRW wont recognize a blank DVD discs. How ever it does read both CDs and DVDs and only burns CDs.... please help

Are you trying to burn a dvd? If so from the spec you gave in the problem description your drive will burn cds(CDRW) but will only play dvds(DVD). If it stated DVDRW then you would be able to burn DVDs as in the CDRW.

Driver problem with DVD/CDRW device driver

Hi sandystell,

Well normally in Windows XP the DVD/CDRW drive won't need anymore drivers, since Windows automatically installs one for it. I assume the problem you're having is that the drive is not able to read CDs/DVDs or burn a disc, correct?

If that is the case you can actually follow this microsoft KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B314060

This will give you indepth help on what to do. I would recommend that you do the removal of the upper filters and lower filters in the registry.

You can test if the optical drive works in Safe Mode, by pressing F8 on startup and choosing Safe Mode, then logging into yourr account. See if the disc is read in Safe Mode, if it does, then you have a program that is conflicting with the drive. I would recommend that you run MSCONFIG, goto Startup tab and disable most if not all of the startup items, then click on APPLY then OK.

The next thing is running the diagnostics for the computer to see if there any reported hardware problems. Now if all tests passed, the next step is reseating the optical drive (if possible) check the computer manual on how to do procedure, otherwise you may have to call up Dell Technical Support.

Now you may have to replace the drive itself since it could be defective now.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)
