There are so many reasons for this fault. If you wish to get more details, check this link. It has screen-shots illustrations to faulty screens to plasma displays. You can see and compare it to your TVs' and can make sure about the faulty section circuit inside it.

This could be a poor connection with the LVDS cable which runs from the main video processing board to the screen, or a fault within the video processor on the main board. Worst case scenario is it could be a fault with the screen itself.
It is only LCD's that use backlights, Plasma TV's use a different concept to produce the picture. I assume you have no picture, this does not mean the screen is faulty. It could be either a sustain board or control board fault.
