TEMPORARY FIX for model # LSQ8200HQO (perhaps, other models as well) until you can tear the thing apart: DUCT TAPE. One drawback - you'll have to leave the lid open, tape the lid switch on the outside *away* from the tub. The wires on the model listed are long enough to allow you to do this.

Thanks for helping me figure out what the problem was. Tearing apart will have to wait until Monday ... RUSH CONCERT tomorrow night!!!

On the Ultimate Care II, for a broken lid switch, here is a band-aid solution to get you by. I've been doing it for a year now. Close the lid, place the heal of your hands down on the lid about 2/3 of the way back near the left edge. Then press down on it with your weight like you are giving it CPR. Once usually does it! If you open the lid for any reason, you have to do it again. I get it all full of water and soap, ready to wash, close it, and give it a shove. Good luck!

Kenmore machine stopped spin. Checked the

Check your lid switch. If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain, this is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If not activated by a lid strike, other models have the lid switch located under the washer casing next to one of the lid hinges. It is activated by a rod contacting an actuator. The mounting scews for this type are located under the operator console.

If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to access the washer interior and replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com, searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, or repairclinic.com. The average cost of a replacement is $25 to $35.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Key Symptoms:

If the Motor Coupling were bad the washer will not agitate or spin, but WILL drain.

If the Lid Switch fails, the washer will fill, but stop before the spin cycle and WILL NOT drain.

Won't spin, won't drain

Hi...

If your washer does not drain, you need to check this:

  • Inspect the drain hose for kinks
  • Test the timer control
  • Test the lid switch (some models)
  • Inspect the water pump
  • Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
  • Inspect the motor coupler
If it does not spin check also this:

  • Test the lid switch
  • Test the timer control
  • Test the centrifugal switch
  • Test the water level switch
  • Inspect the motor coupler
  • Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
  • Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
  • Test the motor
  • Inspect the pulley
  • Test the transmission

Good luck !!!

Whirlpool LSR7133KQ0 no pumpout, rinse, or spin.

NO...the problem you are describing are the typical symptoms of a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch shuts the washer off when you open the lid while the drum is spinning. This is a safety feature to prevent injury from moving parts if you decide to add a garment or stick your hands in the tub for some reason while it is in operation. On some model Whirpool's the washer WILL work initially for the wash cycle, then stop when it gets to the rinse cycle. I would recommend you check your lid switch to make it is not loose or broken. Your washer is also equipped with a lid strike (a small plastic piece on the lid that activates the switch) make sure it is not broken off or missing. This will give the same symptoms of a broken lid switch.

If you require a replacement switch, they can be ordered on line at searspartsdirect.com, or you can go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. The part number for the switch is 3949247. The lid strike (if required) is part number 358684. If you need instructions on how to replace the lid switch, you can use this link if you like:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

I don't know how savvy you are, so I thought I would add the instructions just in case. I hope you find all this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

If the washer fills and stops at the rinse cycle, and then will not spin or drain, you more than likely have a defective lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid and do not hear a “clicking” sound, the switch has probably come loose, or has broken. There are two mounting screws that hold the switch in place along the washer rim. Also, inspect the lid to ensure the small plastic piece that pushes down on the switch when the lid is closed has not broken off. This is called the “lid strike”. If the lid strike is broken or missing, the lid switch will not activate. If you diagnose the problem and need to replace the switch, you can click on the following link for advice on how to replace it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397101-replacing_lid_switch

If you need further assistance, such as where to get replacements parts, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: You do not need to drain the wash tub to replace the switch. Once the switch has been replaced, the washer should spin and drain, which will prevent you from needing to bail water.
