Loud, screeching noise when taking a message (by 2 users)

Erased a couple dozen messages, then any incoming messages after the greeting are drowned out with a loud, echoing, screeching noise. I've disconnected the power cord from the phone and from the wall several times to reset it, but the noise keeps coming back when a message is playing. Any way to get rid of it?

Meant to say "I've disconnected the power cord from the answering machine and from the wall" etc.

I have the same problem.

I have the load screeching noise and people are unable to hear our answer message. Unalbe to set the correct time

Managed to clear it myself. After making several cell phone calls to my machine last night and unplugging it over and over, etc. I gave up. This morning I again unplugged everything, reset all the settings and called the machine several times. At first I kept getting the "noise", but eventually I was able to call and leave a normal sounding message. Can't really explain what "cured" it! In desparation I did shake the machine and give it a hard slap, but who knows what did it!
