Camera won't turn on after downloading/deleting pics on MacBook

1. I am living in Mexico City at the moment, so you are my only online hope. : (
2. Camera (Casio Exilim EX-Z850) was purchased in December 2006 and came with the USB cradle CA-31 5.3V, USB cord, and power cord.

3. I am using a MacBook (purchased in October 2006) running OS X 10.4.11, with a 2GHz Internal Core 2 Duo Processor and 1 GB memory.

4. There were no strange power outages or surges when problem occurred.

Here's my problem: My camera won't turn on, the computer won't recognize the camera when the USB is plugged in, and the charge button won't light up when the base is plugged into the wall socket (that is currently supplying power to my computer)

I was downloading images from my camera onto my computer and in the process of deleting 750 files (I realize that this was probably a bad idea), my finder slowed down and stopped deleting files. I quit all other programs and tried relaunching the finder a few times. I tried ejecting the camera, which also did not work. (My Ipod was also plugged in at this time, but is working fine). The finder did not relaunch, so I shut down my computer. I detached the camera (though at this point did not think to try turning it on or off).

When I restarted my computer, my finder back in working order, my applications were working fine, and the trash can now appeared empty. I reattached my camera (planning to delete fewer files from the trash at once), and the computer did not recognize it. At this point, I took the camera off of the cradle and tried to turn it on. But alas, it did not. Then I plugged the power cord into the cradle and the red charge light did not turn on.

I am not sure what to do.

One last detail (although I don't think it is important), is that my camera was borrowed the other day by a friend. She used her own memory card to download some photos of her own and returned it this morning. When I began to download photos and empty my very full trash earlier today, my camera was working without any problems.

Is there any troubleshooting you can offer me? Thank you so much!

Of course, your solution worked. In all my panic, I forgot to return to lesson 101 of "it don't work"

    Thank you so much!

And by thank you, I meant that removing and reinserting the battery and memory card did the trick. Thanks for all of your quick solutions! : )

I do know that an external device will not be detected (via USB or Firewire) unless it is powered on, so the issue with your battery/charger is more than likely at the root of the problem in which your PC doesn't recognize the camera as being attached. So, try another battery as the NP-40 battery that your camera requires is rated at about 400 recharge cycles maximum (could the battery be dead?). The battery being shorted open would cause the charger to not recognize that it's in the cradle also, so back to the battery (as the problem) we are.
Good luck.

Do not delete files on camera memory using the computer, this may damage the camera. Use camera own delete menu.

Try to remove batteries and memory card out from camera, put everything back, and restart see if it works.

SOURCE: Casio Exilim EX-Z850 Red Light Flashing

I have been having this same problem. It doesn't happen everytime, but there have been a number of occasions when my Exilim Z850 would display a blinking red light and refuse to take pictures. I thought it was a battery issue, so I tried buying a new battery, eventhough I observed this problem soon after the camera was newly purchased. The new battery didn't help resolve the issue. So I do hope someone out there has figured out what's wrong and will let us know.

My Pentax Optio w10 displays a "lock" when I try to access the menu. What do I do? Also - how do I delete all the pics off my memory card at one time rather than one by one?

Check if your camera is in green mode, then all you have to do is turn on the camera and and press and release the trash button that has the green dot on it.

Deleted folder

You have chance to recover the lost photos with so-called photo recovery software but it's not 100% sure. Well, since you failed to mention the OS you are running, I'll recommend you have a try of Wondershare Photo Recovery, a program equipped with both Windows and Mac versions. For Windows OS, download here. If you are running Mac OS X, get the program from this link.

Step-to-Step Instruction:

1. Download and install the trial version on your computer, then connect your camera memory card to the computer (I assume you are using Windows). Start Wondershare Photo Recovery and select the drive letter that assigned to camera memory card.
2. Then choose the file type (all, photo, video, music) click "Star Scan".
3. Now the scanning process will start automatically to look for the deleted items. You will then get a list of all recoverable ones.
4. Preview the photos. If your deleted ones are found, then you need pay to get the activation code. And click "Recover".

1. Take the free trial version before you buy.
2. Before your deleted items are recovered, do not take more photos or videos.

I hope you good luck. Greetings
