Same here- heading to radioshack for a universal replacement now.

Same thing happened to mine. I opened the remote and found that the springy wire that connects the negative (-) end of the AA batteries to the remote broke off. I soldered it back together and it works now. Soldering it back together was VERY tricky because the two ends were at a 45 degree angle to each other. It took a lot of patience and a steady hand.

My tv won't come on with or without my remote was watching tv went to change channel and it wouldn't work. put new batteries in it. still nothing unplugged it and plugged back in and still nothing.

Check whether you can operate it with panel buttons. If yes; check the remote control. It is faulty. If not, the main board to it is faulty. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience.

Cant get the remote to work for menu options just started setting it up already programed to my direct tv remote now nothing is working or either remote t.v or direct tv remote

To diagnose a remote control problem follow these steps.

1) unplug the TV power cord, count to five and plug it back in. (reboot)
2) try to power on with ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER remote.

if that works- your TV and original remote are fine.

if that does not work:
4) try to power on with buttons on the TV itself- if it works- check your remote batteries and try remote again.

Direct TV and Dish Network remotes will ONLY operate SIMPLE function of your TV such as power, volume, input.
They will NOT access your TV menu.

Our remote control locked somehow and we cannot unlock it, please help. We are only renting therefore we do not have a user manual. Its universal infrared remote control philips sru 3040 II (tv, vcr and...

The remote may be faulty rather than locked. It could also be a faulty Infra-red (IR) receiver in the TV. There are some simple checks you can do to establish the cause of the fault.

First, try this trick for unfreezing a 'dead' remote:

1. Remove the batteries.
2. Press and release every button on the remote one at a time until every button has been pressed and released at least once.
If your remote has any slide switches, you must repeat the button pushing for each switch position. When you've pushed all the buttons, put the slide switch back in the correct position to operate the device you use it for.
3. Put the batteries back in the remote, and make sure they are correctly installed. Use new batteries if you're unsure about the old ones.
4. Try the remote.

If this doesn't work, check the remote is sending a signal. Take it into a darkened room and look into the end which you point at the TV/VCR, etc. Press a few buttons and make sure you can see the red LED flashing. Alternatively, get someone to point the remote at you and press some buttons while you look at it through the viewfinder of any digital camera or an analogue (tape) video camera - a mobile phone will be fine for this. You should see the flashes clearly.

If you can see the flashes, try replacing the batteries and try with the TV again. If it still doesn't work, it's likely that the IR receiver in your TV (or whichever device you are using it with) has failed.

If you can't see any flashes after doing all of the above, then your remote is probably dead and the easiest thing to do is replace it as repairing it will cost almost as much (or more) than buying a new one.

Hope this helps.

The battries in remote are new. the remote wont change channels or turn power on and off.The buttons on the tv set wont work either. It keeps saying child lock is on.

As the remote is not working please

1.check the batteries are properly installed with correct polarity.(+ and -)

2.Check weather correct remote operating is set.(TV,VCR etc)

If both are OK then please programm your remote again with the TV.As you removed your battries it might reset the code

When using buttons on TV it says CHILD LOCK is ON.

Child lock fuction is to prevent children operating buttons in TV console. This can be set only by remote. Cannot set by TV console Buttons. If this fuction is activated you cannot use the TV console buttons.

Remote will not power on tv; however it will operate tv once it is on. Also it will turn it off.

Have you try a fresh set of battery yet?

Clean the battery contacts and remote front lens.

Are you using a stock or universal TV remote?

The carbon contacts can be worn out on your tv remote.
There are carbon cleaner and carbon paste you can purchase to "FIX" your remote but you has to open up the remote to apply the cleaner and paste.

If you are using an universal remote then you can try for other code/combination.

If you are handy then go the the carbon paste "FIX IT" method.

A new universal remote cost between $12-40+.

Tv won't stop changing channels

You need to isolate the problem.
1) Unplug the set for a few seconds then plug it in.
2) Operate the TV with the control/buttons on the TV. (Channels etc)
If the TV operates correctly then do the following.
3) Try operating with the remote unit. If the problem returns then it's the remote failing.

Sometime remotes can be reset.
Try this;
Step 1- Pull the batteries out of the remote and leave them out until Step 4.
Step 2- Press and release each and every button one at a time on the remote control until every button has been pressed and released at least once!
Step 3- If your remote has slide switches, you must move the switch to each position then repeat the button pushing in Step 2.
(When you're done, be sure to put the slide switch in the correct position to operate the unit the remote came with!)
Step 4- Put the batteries back into the remote, being very careful to install them correctly.
New batteries should be used if you're not sure about the old ones.

Try it again. If the problem is still there then the remote is bad.
Since this is a new TV you should use your warranty to replace any bad parts.

Tv turning back on when turned off.

Thanks for helping me understand this problem. I've placed new batteries in the RC but, that don't help. It's the RC that came with the TV when I purchased it new.
