Flash Drive Problem

If anyone can offer help on this, I'd be most appreciative.

I am running XP on a Sony VAIO. I have a SimpleTech 512 mb flash drive which has worked well in the past. However, all of a sudden, yesterday when I inserted the flash drive, the PC confirmed the drive was present (E:\), but explorer could not find any files on the drive.

Of relevance in terms of troubleshooting:

1. My other flash drives work OK with this notebook
2. The SimpleTech flash drive works well in all other computers
3. I uninstalled the driver, then put the drive back in the usb port, and it claimed it recognized the drive and ended up with the "ready for use" message...but it still does not show any files being present.

If anyone has any further troubleshooting ideas, I thank them in advance!

I think the problem has to be something within the PC settings, since the drive works fine on other PC's. Thank you for the idea, though.

How to use a 512 MB flash drive

Normally you would just have to plug the flash drive into a USB port on either your laptop or desktop computer. If you are operating on a relatively new computer it should automatically detect and install any driver that is needed. Once that's complete, you can "get to" or view the items on the flash drive by clicking on the start menu (assuming you are using a Windows computer), then my computer and selecting the drive letter of the flash drive.

Change ram from 512 to 1 gig bios cannot read added ram

The original 2 sticks of 256 Mb of RAM gives you a total of 512
Mb of RAM. Two 512 Mb of RAM gives you a total of 1 Gb of RAM.
With two sticks of 512 Mb of RAM are you sure you got a total of 192 Mb of RAM, this is a lot less than the original RAM total of 512 Mb?
Should this be 1920 Mb of RAM?
If this 192 Mb is correct then the RAM modules are either not compatible with the laptop or if the RAM modules are not from the same manufacturer then they may not work together.

Most laptops have video cards that use part of the main RAM for video RAM, that is why the available RAM is less than the installed RAM modules. The amount of RAM the video card grabs depends upon the type of video card and in some cases the amount of video RAM can controlled in the BIOS setting.

What is the specifications for a replacement harddisk for the Sony Vaio TR2A? Is a replacement motion eye camera available and finally, what is the speciications for upgrading the RAM to the full 1 GB ?...

Your hard drive is an IDE type so any capacity IDE laptop drive would work. The largest size memory module it can support is a 512 mb and this laptop has 2 memory sockets so it can support two 512 mb pc2100 type sodimms.

    Bigger hard drive

I'm not sure if the motherboard supports SATA drives, so your best bet is getting any IDE (ATA) hard drive. It's up to you which kind you want. I've always been partial to Western Digital and Seagate.

If you are running Windows XP then you shouldn't have a problem with having a larger hard drive, I know Windows 2000 had some issues with them that required registery editing.
