Question about Maytag MAV6300 Top Load Washer
I heard lots of clicking noises and smelt a very faint burning smell; my machine continued to run for another ten minutes or so, then more clicking and it stopped completely (mid-cycle, too, so full of dirty water and clothes). I checked the power/fuse box - the problem isn't there. The machine is six years old. Should I call a repair-person or just buy a new machine?
IT SOUNDS LIKE A PROBLEM WITH THE MOTOR,WIRING, OR TIMER. SOMETIMES THE TIMER MOTOR WILL START CLICKING AFTER IT GETS SOME AGE ON IT. IT IS UNUSUAL FOR THAT TO CAUSE YOUR PROBLEM. THE SLIGHT BURNING SMELL COULD BE THE MOTOR. IT MIGHT HAVE TRIPPED THE OVERLOAD ON THE MOTOR FROM GETTING TOO HOT. AFTER IT HAS COOLED AWHILE, THE OVERLOAD SHOULD RESET ITSELF. YOU MAY WANT TO ADVANCE THE TIMER TO SPIN AND SEE IF IT WILL RUN NOW.
SOME RETAILERS OFFER NO CHARGE ON THE SERVICE CALL IF YOU END UP BUYING A NEW REPLACEMENT APPLIANCE FROM THEM. ASK AROUND.
IF YOU GET THAT DEAL, IT'S TO YOUR ADVANTAGE TO CALL FOR SERVICE. IF HE FIXES IT, YOU HAVE YOUR WASHER READY TO GO, IF NOT, AND YOU BUY A NEW ONE FROM THAT RETAILER, NO CHARGE FOR THE SERVICE CALL.
