You're going to need iTunes to do this, download it here. Once you've done this you can import all your music and videos to iTunes, and then use it to put your media onto your iPod.

Try it on another computer and if it happens its the ipod.
Or try restalling itunes with the lates version (7.7.1)
If that doesnt work try using a different program for your ipod eg Jriver media center
this happens sometimes on the initial use after the upgrade, what may be happening to make the application hang is that itunes is trying to access the internet for the music store causing the hang, especially if youre not on line when syncing.
I think there is an option in the menu to turn off the store.
If you still get problems, uninstall itunes, download and reinstall again.
