I have a jvc dr-mv150bj. I am knew to recording on DVD. I used the dvd to record the super bowl. I forgot to finalize and I was using a portable LCD projector. I unpluged the dvd recorder and took it...

finalizing completes the process of recording so that the disk can be read to play. Yes, probably if power goes off, you'll loose the recording as the disk can finish.
Basically, the code written at the end of recording creates a sort of index so the player knows how to read it.

I just bought the Hitachi DZ-MV550A NTSC camcorder and I cant get it to play on dvd player on the TV Can you please help me Thank you

you need to finalize the disc. With the recorded disc in, hit the "disc navigation" button and you will see a place to hit "finalize". Move cursor to "finalize" and then click "yes". You can only finalize a disc using the AC power source, it will not do it from your battery. You should then be able to play it on your dvd player.

Unit cant recoginze/ read a disk

Randy,

I had a dvd-r disc recorded from a Philips dvd recorder that had not yet been finalized when the Philips went bezerk and died. I replaced it with the Sony GX300 and just for an experiment, tried to finalize it in the Sony

It worked. Not to say that it has to work with only THIS combination of the 2 same dvd recorders or twisting the scenario around with the Sony doing the recording and the Philips doing the finalizing. I also have a Sony dvd/vcr recorder to compliment the GX300. I will have to record a disc on the GX300 and try to finalize it with the combo unit to see if it will do well as a back up.

Right now a disc that is not full yet (home movie from my kids birth) is reading "Disc Error" on the GX300. I may have to do it over or see if the combo unit will do the same finalizing as the GX300. It doesn't have the amount of features that the GX300 has but thats what you get with a combo unit vs. a stand alone recorder/player.

If you know someone with another recorder, try to finalize on it. If not , you could find someone on this sight that has a GX300 and mail the discs plus a smalll fee and have them mailed back. Or you could find a used one cheap at some store and return it if it doesn't finalize.

Good luck

Just purchased - no manual - how do you finalize DVDs so they will play on other DVD players?

Using your remote, hit the function button. Scroll down to setup and right to disc setting. Enter on disc setting. Next screen will show 3 settings. Scroll down to finalize and hit enter. It will ask if you're sure you want to finalize. Enter yes. Remember; once you enter yes, there is no going back.

WHAT DVD DISCS WILL PLAY ON THIS DVD PLAYER

Assuming you are not having an actual hardware problem with the DVD player or an incompatible format (e.g. HD video & non-HD player); you should know that when you write video to DVD-R or DVD+R discs, you have to 'finalize' the discs on the creating drive for them to be playable on a regular DVD player. (Note a finalized disc can no longer be written to. If the player can read DVD-Ram (and your creating drive can write to them), DVD-Ram discs do not need to be finalized.)

Finalizing vs. not finalizing a DVD-R. DVD-R vs. DVD-RAM?

on standard players. The write all the information that a standard player looks for to read the disk. Nothing is lost if you take the DVD out of the recorder without finalizing it. On a PC, you would tell the software to eject the disk. Later model hardware can usually reopen a disk after it has been finalized. Is this a typo? 'I know that the disc cannot be seen in a DVD player after being finalized'. It should read; I know that the disc can be seen in a DVD player after being finalized
