Question about Televison & Video
I have had my Sony LCD Flatscreen for barely over a year now (didn't get the extended warranty because I figured...this much for a t.v., it should last at least 5 years) now I'm screwed. I tried to turn it on the other day and there was no picture. I immediately thought it was my satellite system, but it wasn't. I just tried to turn on the t.v. without anything else and the menu wouldn't even come up. After a couple of minutes the blank black screen that it shows at first turns to a solid bright green.
If the satellite or anything else is on you can hear the sound, but the picture will not display. I called Sony and they guided me through some troubleshooting tips, but nothing worked. They said it would have to be repaired.
After looking on this site for a while I have seen similar problems, but couldn't find an exact issue with this t.v. I'm guessing the lamp is bad and needs to be replaced.
Does this sound like the lamp? And if so, where would it be located and how can I replace it?
Thanks in advance!
Happened twice to me.
1) First time I was too busy and left the thing alone for a few months. Then it worked again fine one day. That was less than 6 months after I got it new.
2) Second time was two weeks ago. Had to go on a camp for 2 days so I unplugged it (because the auto timer to turn it on was still working even though there was no picture, the sound was fine)
Now it is working fine again.
Solution: Unplug it and leave it to rest for 2 days and see if that works.
From what I have read online, it seems to be a power issue. Some people spent money changing parts but in my case, it just seems to need some rest. Even though I don't use it a lot...

I had blank picture on My 40 inch bravia, Lights were okay and sound okay. I found a local business who has savaged TV's and they replaced my Sony Video Driver for 75 pounds. Find an LCD technican and they will save you hundreds.

Hey, I'm green mad from the Oct. 8 posting. The two Sony phone agents were worthless, the gave me several repair services to call. The one I did call was very honest, Said it was the light engine that needed to be replaced. A $1500 part. Since my set wasn't even 30 days old they told me to take it back to Circuit City and get a new one. I LOVE Circuit City. Their policies are very fair and competitive. Bought the Samsung to replace the Sony because I was paranoid, but immediately noticed many differences in quality, SOUND, FUNCTION, . . Samsung's picture is bright but Sony's can be adjusted to match. Kept it for two weeks to see if I'd get used to it, but couldn't. Circuit City let me exchange it back for the Sony model I had purchased before Bravie KDL524100W. It's only been two weeks, but I love this television and hope the green screen doesn't return. Did buy the Circuity City warranty, because read alot about Sony's warranty replacing with remanufactured parts after long periods of not having a TV. Only hope Circuit City will be around for a while.

I have had my Bravia for about a year now and i turned it on today to find that there was no picture, no sound, no menu or back light... just a black screen. Like the first post im not covered under any warranty. I could have paid $100s less for other brands but thought naw.. sony is the best of the best right! $1,200 for a piece of junk to hang on my wall and look nice.
P.S. My Westinghouse is still working fine and was bought the year before.

My Sony Bravia has no picture but one of my satellite channels works so I know it still works. Also my PS3 won't show up either but there is sound. My tv also says it's on 480 when it should be 1080. How do I fix this.

Sorry about your issue, however, LCD's do not have a lamp, they have a back light but the chances that is bad is a million to one. I strongly recommend taking it in for an evaluation. I understand your feelings that it should last 5 years or so, however I see every brand, a year or two old with these types of issues. The day's of no problems for 5 yrs up to 20 are definitely over. This is technology at it's finest.
