Question about Garmin StreetPilot c340 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I hooked the Garmin 340 up to the computer via USB

The USB connection for the Garmin 340 brings the unit back to life. When I put it back in the car and attached it w. the power adapter to the lighter it goes dead immediately. It appears that it is not actually charging when hooked up to the computer. I was advised to check the battery but I do not know how to get to the battery inside of a seemingly sealed unit. Further advice is needed to solve this problem. Thank You.

I strongly recommend you to get it repaired if it is inder warranty because once you break the seal you will loose your warranty service.
And since it is a sealed unit to take it apart you will need some special itype of nstruments which i don't think are available anywhere.

Goodluck..

Does this come with a usb cable? Not sure how to hook up.

Not sure if it does, some may come with one, its the same USB cable that you hook up your camera with to a computer......

The USB to Mini-USB cable is to download maps and updates for your unit and transfer media to your Garmin

When you get your Garmin you need to register the unit with Garmin so the maps will unlock, this is how you would do it below....

With the Garmin unit off.... connect the mini-usb to gps then connect other USB end to computer

your computer will detect the connection

now go to www.MyGarmin.com the site will also detect what unit you have and let you unlock the map

here is where you register your unit and unlock maps

Garmin 340 street pilot

Remove the battery out and put back in after 5 minutes to reset it.
, check also that the in car power cable is working, and the Garmin is not drained. Tru to connect it to power outlet if you have an adapter

Sd/garmin

By connecting your garmin to your computer via USB, the sd card you have loaded in it will turn up as removable storage on your computer. You can treat it like a hardrive.

Without a cable, you can remove the sd card from the garmin and place it in a card reader hooked up to your computer.

Garmin c 340 froze- what do I do

This solution is for c330 but it should work the same...

It took a nap...

Waking up your c330...

If you left your Garmin c330 on running the battery will have 1% life left. If you turn c330 back on again, it will flash screen for 3 seconds then die, even charging it at this point will not wake it back up. TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE... plug in the power home or car into Garmin c330. There is a tab in the front Garmin gray frame of your screen. You must take like your fingernails and under the logo "GARMIN" pull the whole gray plastic frame off. Underneath the plastic frame to the right hand side. There is a "RESET" button. Make sure power is plugged in while hitting reset. Your battery should come back to life. Cheers

My garmin cannot start

Hi there... If you mean it doesn't do anything when you push/slide the on button, then try this... (mine did the same thing just yesterday and was a result of a very low battery - would not even start with 12v cord in from the car!)...

Find the USB cable that came with your Garmin. Hook the USB cable to your computer, with the other end hooking up to your Garmin (where the normal car cable goes).

The Garmin will probably turn on instantly once you have hooked it up to your PC (assuming the PC is turned on and in Windows etc). This will actually charge the Garmin battery too while hooked up the PC, so leave it connected for a little while (a couple of hours).

If it doesnt switch on automatically when connected to the PC, try using the slide ON switch. Once it is active, it will be in PC transfer mode (assuming you have an SD card in the card slot of the Garmin). Now is a good time to use the Garmin WebUpdate application (available from www.garmin.com) to see if any software updates are available for your unit. If so, go ahead and install them. I updated mine yesterday!

Once you get it working via connection to the PC and the battery has charged up a little, take it back to the car and keep the 12v car cable plugged in all the time. This will continue to charge it up as it is being used (while the car is running of course). You should find that after u get it working on the PC it will again work in the car too...

i think it just turns it off for some reason permanently when it gets a really low/dead battery and only the PC hookup seems to re-activate it... Also, apparently you can hold the slide switch on the Garmin in the ON position for 7 seconds to reset the unit, but that didn't work for me... Worth a try anyway!

Dead Garmin c550

had same exact problem. my unit would come on for a minute and then go black. if you take the silver ring around the face you will see the four screws to take the unit apart if you do have to replace the battery. however first try hitting the reset button on the right side of the unit. remember the cover needs to be off. i hit the reset and my unit powered on with no problems

I turned it on and it lit up and then completely died

Question: Why won't my StreetPilot c3xx power on?
Found on the Garmin web site --> Answer: If your StreetPilot does not power on, or if it turns on then turns off, you can troubleshoot the problem by resetting or charging the unit. The reset is a "soft" reset that you can perform in the car; it restores power to the unit, but it does not remove data.
To reset the unit:
  1. Place the unit in the cradle and roll it backwards slightly to lock it in place.
  2. With the key in the car ignition, turn on the unit or put it in accessory mode.
  3. On the face plate of the unit, put your thumb nail in the groove under the Garmin logo and gently pull off the face plate.
  4. With the face plate removed, press the reset button on the right side.
  5. Turn the unit back on. If the unit still doesn't power on, you may need to charge it.
To charge the unit:
  1. Using the provided USB cable, connect the device to the computer.
  2. Reset the unit (following instructions above).
  3. Keep the device connected to the computer and allow it to charge overnight (7-8 hours).
  4. After charging, unplug the unit and power it on.

My garmin zumo will not turn on.

Have you also held the power on button for a couple of minutes, with the battery installed, and without the battery installed. There is an issue with the garmin dying, some cases a new battery helps, other cases, just leave the battery to charge for several hours, worst case is that you have to ship it to Garmin. I had a couple of Dead Zumo, however, removing the battery for several minutes, putting it back and clipping the zumo in the car holder did the trick for me. I also have a spare battery and allen wrench, just in case...

Will not turn on

Champ...If your 340 stops responding, try turning it off and back on.If this does not help, reset the 340.

1.Unplug the power and the usb cables to remove external power.
2.Place your thumbnail in the groove located under the Garmin logo on the faceplate and gently pull off the faceplate.
3.Press the reset button for about 3 seconds.
4.Connect the 340 to a power source using power cable. The 340 should automatically turn back on and operate normally.
Good Luck ... Ginny

Garmin 340 streetpilot won't even turn on?

I had the same issue with mine during a trip. Probably needs to be reset. See page 31 of the users manual on Resetting your c340. Once I did this it worked fine.
